38 wk Appt. Buzzkill ::vent::

Obviously I still have two weeks to go (will most likely be induced on my due date) but it was so disheartening to go to my appointment today and have my doc tell me that the baby is still sitting fairly high and that I'm at a 2.  I know all of you other moms who are still pregnant can relate--I just want my baby!! I am a STM and not currently working so I'm incredibly restless!  Ideas to pass the time? Good reads? Creative labor inducing tricks ;)?

Re: 38 wk Appt. Buzzkill ::vent::

  • FTM here, but definitely jealous you're at a 2! "Babies heads where it's supposed to be but your cervix isn't doing much." Is hard to hear 3 weeks in a row!

Good luck with your restlessness! I fill mine with worrying about work & how they'll function without me, along with escaping home from work early to nap & deep clean.

  • FTM here and I'm fairly certain this little girl is pretty high still. I literally just had a meltdown because I am so so so done.

DH doesn't know what to say or do...and I'm just over it.

I have another appointment Wednesday (technically my 38 week appointment since they're always on the last day of the week)...so I'm praying for some progress...otherwise I might flip the eff out.

  • I totally feel your pain! I just had my 39 week appointment and dr said he could feel little ones head down there which is a great sign but my body is showing absolutely no signs of getting ready for labour. Ya that's what I wanted to hear 4 days from my due date. So since I'm hoping for a VBAC he won't let me go past 41 weeks and has already scheduled my induction for march 28th. Then he proceeds to say how there are certain things they can't use to induce me being VBAC and if my cervix hasn't started to change by then induction won't likely be successful and I may end up with a RCS. Which nearly made me cry right there. So I totally get your frustrations and could also use any helpful natural labour inducing tips and tricks
  • At 40&1 last Thursday I was zero dilated.. I would be happy to be at 2..

  • Last Monday at 37w 4d I was 0cm DS was high. DS was born Saturday. The same thing with DS1 happened. So it really doesn't mean anything. Oh and both DSs were both high when my water broke. Don't get discouraged!

This sounds just like my situation.

  • I feel ya. For three weeks I have been a two and 60 percent effaced. Reading about all the early deliveries, I knew this wasn't news to write home about. Now she is pushing induction like crazy and will probably be induced on my due date in nine days. It's kind of a bummer but I am definitely getting close to the end of my rope and still working. So I just keep telling myself, at least this way, I won't have any bad surprises and OB will get to,deliver not,a rotating doctor....

  • Definitely hear you. I was pretty disappointed at my 39w appt Friday when my dr said nothing had changed (barely dropped, nothing else). It didn't help that she started planning for appts after my due date & talking about induction. :( I just keep reminding myself that things can change really fast. Hang in there, sooner or later we'll have our babies!! :)

  • I feel your pain, lady! I'm 40 weeks today, and at my 39 week appointment last Thursday my doc said that her head was definitely down where it should be, but nothing else was really going on. I'm pretty much banking on the fact that I will go to 41 weeks which is when they will induce me. She just needs to GTFO! Mom's over this!

  • You guys are making me thankful that my OB hasn't done a check at all. I'd be going crazy knowing I was at all dilated and then nothing happening. I'm having a little ignorance is bliss moment over here... which is funny because I usually HATE not knowing things. The nurse last week said I'd probably get a cervical check at my next visit, which will be 39w4d. We'll see what it says...
  • I was only 1cm the day I had my baby. Came to hospital for contractions. Since I was overdue they told me to walk the halls for an hour. I could barely stand up during my contraction, got checked again and was still at 1. They were getting my discharge papers and my water broke.
  • I am told that STM+ moms hang out at 2 for awhile and it can mean pretty much nothing :(

I'm pretty sure it always means " pretty much nothing" (contrary to the big deal our ob's make it out to be...)

  • I'm a STM too and although I'm not in the same boat as far as my cervix goes, I am also not working. I'm really trying to enjoy my time before baby comes by spending it with friends for lunch, napping, doing some baking and relaxing. As you know, when LO comes all of that goes out the window...try to enjoy your time and baby will come when ready. I find it helps to have something little to do every day out of the house. Good luck!

  • I wouldn't worry too much! I had my baby yesterday and when I got admitted, I was six cm dilated but baby was still at a -2. So It's possible for your LO to drop at the last minute. Good luck!
  • I feel your pain my LO flipped sunny side up and there fore went from 2-3cm and 60% at 36 week appointment to 1-2cm and "way up there" at my 37 week appointment. I almost cried!
  • I'm 38w4d and a fingertip dilated and baby's at -3, ha. So yeah, I'm pretty sure my VBAC isn't going to happen because my RCS is scheduled for next wednesday. Oh well. I'm glad I have an end date. If I didn't I would probably be upset, not going to lie!

  • That was exactly how my 38w appointment went. 2cm but my cervix is still closed. Even more annoying because when I was in the hospital at 33w they told me I was 1cm and 50% I had contractions every 1/2 hour yesterday and they turned into a constant cramping in the afternoon. I tried walking around the grocery store for an hour and they stopped :( I've eaten pineapple and had sex. I'm hoping for some fantastic news on Thursday. The first day of spring and exactly 1 week early sound perfect to me!

  • So it's true, misery does love company :) I know everyone's story will ultimately be different but it softens the blow when you hear others are going through the same or similar thing.
  • yeah just got done. I am now on modified bed rest for BP, baby is at a -3 and I am "tight as a drum" as my OB says. 38 weeks 3 days. We've already set an appointment for the 41 week.

I come back to work and my co-worker who I have known for years but am not that close to asked if I was dilated at all

I told her eww, and why would she even want to know? You can not be dilated until active labor or you can be dilated for weeks, it means nothing. She was totally offended that I didn't want to discuss my cervix.

Oh also, I can't work with out my second monitor IE on modified bed rest because my power settings won't change the brightness back up. Its like im staring at a black screen.... I can faintly make out icons....

I went from 3cm & -2 to pushing in 3 hours.  You really just never know.  Some moms dilate early and some don't (earth shattering news, eh?)
