How you plan to carry LO, brand opinions?

My dad and my brother are buying us our carseat and our travel system. I'm planning on just sticking to the convertible carseat in my vehicle, while DH wants the travel system one in his vehicle (LO wont be in his vehicle as often).

Carrying a carseat all the time is definitely a NO-NO as per my ortho, so it will either be stroller, handcarry, or sling/wrap/carrier.

When you are out and about, how have you/do you plan to transport LO?

Any brands you wouldn't recommend?

I've heard Ergo Bjorn isn't good for LO's hips?

Do they have classes for those wrap things?

I've only used the Moby, but I love it. I watched some videos on how to do it, and that was all I needed.

With DD, I carried her in a Moby for the first 6-9 months or so, and then switched to the Ergo. I loved them both!

I have a fusion in my lower back, so its not so much the weight that is the issue, its the way you carry it. I could get away with it a handful of times, for short distances, but that'd probably be it
My jump bags for work are all the type I can throw on my back (like a backpack), as I don't have the side-to-side compensation thing to my advantage. I had to do that after running up 2 flights of stairs with it at my side

I choose baby wrap, but we use a combination of wearing, the infant carrier and stroller. If I'm out by my self I plan on having my wrap on and taking the stroller. Sometimes DS will sit in the stroller and other times he won't. I need to be able to chase him.

I have a lot of lower back and pelvis issues, so when my first was little I mostly left the infant carrier in the car and wore her in the sleepy wrap. The reason I liked the sleepy wrap over the more popular moby wrap is because the sleepy wrap is stretchy. That allowed me to wrap the long thing around me at home and then just put the baby into it when we got to our location. After about six months she got sick of being worn facing in and was too heavy for me to carry when facing out (she would lean out). At that point she could sit up so I got a cart cover for shopping carts or put her in our stroller.

I love my Beco!!

With DS, I tried a sling, the moby, H tried the bjorn, but the only one that was simple enough to use and pain free was the Beco. We bought it when he was 12 months and I used it up until I got pregnant again. I cannot wait to be able to use it with a newborn! SO worth the money.

I voted SS - because all of the above apply. FWIW I don't think I ever carried DS in the infant carrier carseat (well, except from/to the car to the house). I would always pop that thing out and put it immediately in the stroller. I don't think we used a stroller without the infant carseat until he was almost 6 months because there was no need to. I also used both Moby wrap and Ergo with him, both of which I loved.

I can't carry the bucket seat either. I've gone the convertible route from birth with both my kids and plan to do this time as well.

I put down carrier, but I've done many routes. I had the backpack type carrier with dd and though it worked, it hurt my arms because the straps were supposed to rest on the pads and they always slid off.

I used the Moby with DS and lived it, but DS was a giant baby and quickly out grew the Moby.

This time I'm going the carrier route. I want to get a Tula (like an Ergo, just a little bigger so can be used longer).

Ring slings are great cuz you can wear it with no baby while you're driving and then get out and put the baby in. I really like the way wraps hold the baby so close at the newborn stage. I didn't start using ring sling until dd was wanting to be hip-carried. This time around I want a moby-esque wrap this time around for my newborn. I want to explore other brands though, like boba, because I have their backpack style carrier and love it.

We had a Bjorn for DS and used it on occassion, and we really liked it -- no issues with DS.

I wasn't aware of the whole hip debate until just now, so I'm trying to do some additional research. I was thinking we would likely end up wearing this baby a lot more, especially when H or I have both kiddos on our own. I'm looking at the Ergo and the Onya as possible replacements.

I voted SS. We have a stroller and the Ergobaby carrier, and it will probably depend what I'm doing when I go out and about, and I'll choose one or the other carrying method depending.

We plan on using a combo, so I picked s.s. I want to use the K'tan as much as possible when baby is little, but I also have the infant car seat and we're going to get a stroller that you can snap it into. So if the baby is sleeping we can just put it in the stroller without a fuss. I don't plan on carrying the car seat around, it'll be either in the stroller or the baby will be in the carrier. We will have to get 2 sizes of the K'tan since DH is so much bigger than me, but he really wants to babywear as well.

All of the above. After reading reviews, we registered for an Ergo carrier. The reviews said it was the most comfortable, sturdy, and could easily be switched between me (petite, 5'2) and my husband (6'4).

I went to a baby wearing class this weekend and totally changed what I wanted to buy. Originally I wanted to get the K'tan for wrapping and really close infant baby wearing. We discussed it in class and the instructor said they are very hard to size, especially since women will tend to be different sizes right after birth and then a few weeks/months afterwards. While the wrapping takes a bit more time, I plan to use the wrap often at home, and if I use it in public I will wrap before I leave the house and have it ready when I take her out of the car seat. I liked the Boba wrap.

I was then going to get the Ergo for another option and for my H to wear. We saw a few soft carriers and I decided I'd like the Boba better. The Ergo is shorter than the other soft carriers we looked at and so the others had more room to grow it seemed. I liked the Boba b/c it came with an infant insert.

However, after seeing/wearing the Mei Tai, we've decided to hold off on the soft carrier until she is older (if we need it then). My husband is down with wearing the Mei Tai (the reverse is a solid color so he doesn't have to wear a pretty print). It's a nice intermediate between the wrap and soft carrier. It's super simple to put on and is really comfy with padded straps and all.

I have a variety of carriers that I will be using. I used an ergo a lot for DS, but also the snap and go with his car seat, but I can't see a snap and go being useful this time since I will also have a 3 year old with me, so most shopping trips I will probably have DS is the cart and the baby in a ringsling, wrap or other carrier.

I've tried out the Ergo and a Beco and have decided to go with a Beco (although I still can't decide between the Gemini and the Soleil). I felt like the Beco provided a little more support (I've got back/hip issues) and fit my shorter build a little better then the Ergo.

for running errands, i almost always just used a stroller. for outdoorsy activities (festivals, berry picking), or moving around the house (movement = sleeping baby!), i used a baby k'tan when DS was small, and then an ergo when he got bigger, and DH also used the ergo. the only thing i don't like about it is that it gets really warm, really quickly, especially outside on a warm day. i think they make a more breathable version--we're not going to buy another one when the one we have is functional, but for new buyers, i definitely recommend looking into that version.

Thought I would share this on the Bjorn. I've spent the better part of today trying to find scientific research behind this theory that the Bjorn is bad for baby, since today was my first time hearing this and I planned on reusing ours for this baby. @MeganEMcG5, thanks for posting, that was an interesting article. I had heard the hip dysplasia claim but not backed up by research either.

We ended up with an Ergo which we've been happy with since DD loves to be carried and now that she's 25 lbs it's nice to have her weight mostly supported on my hips with the padded waist band. In addition, her particular temperament happens to be better suited to facing inwards since she was easily overstimulated as a baby and often needed to turn towards us for reassurance.

From what I have read, I do not think that the Bjorn or other narrow based carries (crotch-danglers) cause hip dysplasia, they can just cause the problem to get worse. The Bjorn is perfectly safe, just not ideal.

I didn't start using a wrap until DS was over a year old, so we used the stroller and infant carrier a lot. With #2 we will probably use a combination of things. I have a couple wraps, and plan on getting one converted to a ring sling. I would also really like to get a Tula.

Wraps are kind of tricky to use right away and have a bit of a learning curve. It is very helpful to see if you have a local baby wearing group, where others can help you with tips and tricks. Otherwise youtube is full of instructional videos for different types of carries (Babywearing Faith and WrappingRachel are both great to subscribe to). Babywearing 102 is a great resource group on FB as well!

I used the moby wrap until DS was a little bigger/had better head and neck control, then switched to the ergo. I used the crap out of our ergo, up until I just could not front carry him anymore (and he was big.. like 14mo I wanna say?) I plan on doing the same with #2. If we lived in a bigger town I'd probably utilize a stroller more (and I will transport via carseat for the first few weeks out of convenience) but a stroller just isn't practical where we live.

This poll is sort of ridiculous in its simplicity. I use a stroller, babywear and use the car seat. Depends on baby's mood, where I'm going, if they are napping, etc. I have a ring sling, a K'Tan and a Beco Gemini for babywearing. I love my stroller though too.

We got a hand me down bjorn for the new baby. DS has a leash. Our new double stroller just came yesterday. For short trips DS would usually be in the infant bucket until he got old enough for the umbrella stroller. Now he walks or rides. Wearing will be a new thing this time around.

I've never heard of them before, but they seem way easier to use than say, the Moby or Boba. I feel like I am too stupid to figure them out, and I picture them unraveling and dropping DD

I used a Moby and k'tan early on with my son and them discovered other carriers/wraps when he was 6 months old. I really liked my infantino mei tai as an affordable option but quickly discovered how much I loved woven wraps. I still use woven wraps on a regular basis with my 18 month old and we just bought a ring sling that I love as well. I would suggest that you find a local Babywearing group to see the different carriers because everybody is different and likes different things. The Babywearing group here allowed me to join an affordable lending library of carrier so I could try things out before I made a commitment (some carriers range greatly in price).

I have an Ergo and a couple woven wraps. I'll probably only use the woven wraps while baby is tiny. When he/she gains more head control I'll use the Ergo on occasion for convenience. Mostly I'm a wrap kind of gal.
