Waiting for your first PP AF...

I've reached that stage of nursing. My body feels like it's gearing up to do something and I can't figure it out. Am I ovulating? Is it PMS? Is that my period or EWCM? I feel like I'm running to the bathroom every other minute because I'm worried it's blood. My hormones are all over the place. I have cramps, but I'm also feeling like I'm ovulating. My body temperature is all wacky. Ugh. It's always like this for a month before my period returns. This is why I prefer being pregnant. I hate periods and all of the accompanying symptoms, signs, and grossness...

Re: Waiting for your first PP AF...

  • I've only had three periods in over seven years. I'm spoiled. I sort of forget what it's all like.

  • Um, I still feel like AF is coming and I'm Ku! I run to the bathroom, convinced I'm hemorrhaging and going to lose the baby because this rotten kid isn't letting me feel movement yet... And its just CM. Nasty CM. Like someone blew their nose in my panties.

Lovely, right? Maybe I should have prefaced this post with a TMI warning.

  • @TamaraR4 There is no such thing as TMI among us. We've been through birth together before ;)

  • I have got to join in on the uterus-bashing here, AdamWife. So I have not had a period in 64 days. The first PP period I had started on January 13th. DH and I decided to start trying for number two a while ago. I made an appointment with my OB-GYN for tomorrow morning, hoping that they would start me on Clomid or something to even out my wonky cycles so we can get pregnant again.

This afternoon, on DAY 64, I started my period.

And I really swore that I had ovulated about ten days ago and had *possibly* gotten KU. Urgh!

  • The one good thing about PCOS is the long cycles. For me, that translates into 8-9 day periods which sucks, but the time in between with no AF is nice.

I've only had 2 periods since May of 2012 because of pregnancy and nursing. Of course, all that lovely post partum bleeding was in there. It's so gross. I hate the nastyness of periods.

  • Yep. I hate periods. I didn't even get a decent break after pregnancy last time! Pp bleeding until week 6 then started my first AF on week 8. Boo. In hoping a better break this time around!

  • @tarheelmama202, I would highly recommend not taking any fertility meds (including Clomid) under the care of an OB. Their job is to take care of you while pregnant, not to get you pregnant. A lot of them will prescribe fertility meds, but lack the knowledge and understanding of them to treat or monitor you properly. I'm not trying to use scare tactics, but there are horror stories of women permanently damaging their reproductive organs because they weren't being monitored on fertility meds (this actually happened to one of my friends taking unmonitored Clomid).

An OB can do some testing to figure out why you're having long, irregular cycles, but I wouldn't do any treatment with one. For that, a reproductive endocrinologist is who you want to go to.

  • @fishes - I had a 5 week long period when I was a teenager. They just stuck me on birth control to manage my cycles. It stopped the bleeding, but it's still pretty baffling.

Well AF came back months ago because she hates me - I just hang out in these threads because I'm in awe you guys are still free.

If we want to talk about AF stories... A couple months before my BFP with DS I had a 40 day long period. 40 days ya'll. And the doctors just said, oh well, nothing's wrong with you... Just wait until it goes away?

I have the worst time with doctors. Whenever anything is wrong with me they swear nothing is.

Before I was pregnant with DD, I had a HORRIBLE miscarriage. I should have know that pregnancy wouldn't work out because I was more hormonal than I've ever heard of anyone being but it was my first. I mc'd at 12 weeks and was so hormonal I was hysterical at the thought of a dnc (I'm normally pretty darn solid on emotional control) that I refused and figure it'd work itself out naturally. Well, 6+ WEEKS of heavy bleeding later- I had been faint from blood loss for the last couple of those weeks- I ended up in the ER essentially going into labor for my body to expel the mc. Then some more bleeding. I am SOOOO glad AF isn't back yet because I was a little scarred by that experience.

I just sent you back a book. Seriously. It's so long @TamaraR4 could probably edit it.

I saw this and totally went back to reread my post. I was seriously thinking, what! I reread that and fixed the mobile typos before I posted it.

    Then I reread @kleigh926‌ post. :\">

  • Right along with you....last week I had strong cramps and extreme moodiness and headaches. This week moderate spotting for 4 days and craving for chocolate like I used to get with PMS...oh...and three giant pimples on my face that are similar to those I had when I was a teenager.....I am a mess....and my body is totally trying to regulate itself....I feel nasty....haven't had a period since 2010, so this should be fun when AF finally returns....I hate her!

In college I suspect I had a cyst rupture, I was in the most pain in my life (worse than childbirth with no drugs) and after calling my mom ended up going to the ER. The dr (a man) said nothing was wrong and that "sometimes cramps hurt". I wanted to throw something at him, but even with all the drugs they were pumping into me, I was still in pain so I didn't  ;) Afterwards a nurse told me they would prescribe BCP as the solution, when I said no, she actually scolded me over the phone!

NO. My jaw literally dropped reading this. Holy crap.

I was on BC for several years, but refuse to ever take it again. I crunch on that right along with ya ;)

  • Before my first, I had the WORST cramps. I would miss school or work every month because I'd be puking, they were so bad. And my cycle was never really regulated. I would go anywhere from 25-40 day cycles.

After my first, no cramps, and my cycle was as regular add clockwork! I could set my watch be it, lol. Heck, I even got it the same time of day every month! The only change was I developed (or diagnosed, because I BC we probably had it all my life) PMDD. I felt like I was the only sane person on the planet, when in reality, I would be nutz.

After E... All bets were of the table. Cramps were back. PMDD was even worse. And my cycle was ridiculous. 25-50 day cycles. I POAS more times in those nine months than in the rest of my life! (So imagine my surprise...).

I'm kind of going this time pp, it goes back to my post-C periods.

  • I was totally ready for my first PP period to be awful. Turns out it was just like my previous ones - pretty darn light and lasting only 2-3 days. Sooooo at least they don't HAVE to be that bad.
My first PP AF was really light, too. I've had 3 so far, and one of them lasted longer than I would have liked, but I don't think I really had much cramping for any of them. Definitely not as bad as my first few AF after coming off of BC. That was miserable.

Just a thought for FTM's out there: be prepared for everything to possibly be different about your cycle after having had a baby.  The length, duration, flow, ovulation date, symptoms, PMS symptoms, presence or absence of cramps, etc.  For me, it alllll changed after Jack.  I felt like a noob again.

That's really interesting. I used to get TERRIBLE pain during ovulation. (Spent 13 hours in the ER because of it once) I hope that goes away or tones down when my cycles return.
