AF cramps- help meee

I feel like a newb asking about this but here goes.

Whenever I'm off BCP, I get the worst cramps when I ovulate and when I get AF.  This is my first month off BCP (since starting them again after having B) so I'm wondering if it will get better with each passing month as my body adjusts?  Or am I SOL?  :'(.  I can't remember if it got better the other times I went off BCP but I'm in such terrible, almost debilitating pain that I want to run to the pharmacy and beg them to give me some BCP.

Actually, I just sent DH to the pharmacy to get me something for the pain.  Any other advice?  Hot water pad?  More water?

Oh and just incase anyones wondering, I went off BCP per doctors advice.  My sex drive is so low and I'm a constant bitch so we're experimenting.  We're so not trying to have any baybehs right now.

TIA

I'm sorry, that is the worst! I have always had debilitating cramps when not on BC (and when not pregnant lol). What has always helped me is naproxen, heating pad, and sleep if you can get comfortable enough. :( I hope you can get some relief soon!

Eta: If you take naproxen make sure you eat something or take it with milk or it can make you nauseous.
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.

  • I second the heating pads! It's the only way I could get even remotely comfy sometimes.
  • Oh no, I'm so sorry!  I did all of the things that Halo mentioned to help.  Hope it feels better.  And I totally know what you mean about feeling the pain during ovulation.  I always did too, and no one I ever talked to about it knew what I meant.

I also had similar problems on regular bcps plus had bad headaches and leg cramps.  So, I was deemed a stroke risk and moved to other things.  For many years now, I've used the mini pill, nuvaring, and mirena, all of which were better for me than the bcps for the reasons you mentioned.  I have the mirena now and it's by far my favorite. (Sorry, you didn't ask, but just thought I'd share in case it helps at all.)

  • i used to have those symptoms as well.  i used the heating pad.  but my best relief  has come from taking vitex.

    good luck!
  • Thanks for the help guys.  I took an Aleve and it helped a bit.  The heating pad helped a lot more than I thought it would.

Irn- thanks for the advice.  My doctor really recommended the Nuvaring but I don't know how comfortable I am with it.  I have to do more research on all the options though.  Which did you like best? @Irn327

  • I get very bad menstrual cramps. 800mg of ibuprofen does wonders for me!
