Just wondering if any of you have any experience with baby measuring big? If so what happened? Did you need c-section or did you spontaneously go into labor earlier? Thanks!
My first was 9lb10oz, delivered vaginally (spontaneous labor at 40w1d) slight shoulder displaysia, but no damage to either of us. This time I'm measuring just slightly smaller, so we'll induce at 39w3d to cut off the last few days of weight gain. Plan is to delivery vaginally since we know I can get a baby DD's size out.
They said my second son was suppose to be 8 or 9 lbs. He was only 7.2! New doctor, different state and they're telling me again that he will be 8 or bigger.
Always measured ahead with DD, never had an US though. DD ended up 8.2. Measuring ahead again this time, OB ordered an US since I'm VBAC. Despite measuring 4 weeks ahead they say it's a 29% baby. I'm antisipating a similar sized baby born on her DD.
I'm a FTM and 35 weeks. No experience here - but my baby's head is measuring 4 weeks ahead. I'm sure he will be super smart but I'm a little scared. my doctor said we can discuss induction once we start doing the exams.
My first measured big. At 39w6d, he was estimated to be 9 pounds. Doctor scheduled a C-section for me at 40w4d. However, at my appt. when I was 40w2d, I had finally made some progress, so he switched me from c/s to induction. I was induced at 40w4d, and he was 9 pounds 13 oz delivered vaginally.
I have an US this Friday, and based on that (and size of my first), the doctor will decide to induce me at 39 weeks or to let me go.
They keep telling me I'm measuring big and that baby is expected to be well above average. My 4'11" great-grandma gave birth to 2 babies that were around 10 lbs and one 11 pounder....all natural at home. I'm a lot bigger framed than her so if she can do it, I can too. Everyone keeps telling me the larger, squishier ones are easier anyway lol guess we will see!
Last week baby was measuring 7 lbs 11 ozs at 37+2. I am having a growth ultra sound tomorrow at 38+2. If baby is measuring close to 9 lbs we will schedule a c - section for 39 wks. If baby is smaller we will induce at 40 wks. My DD I was induced at 40 wks due to her size. She ended up being 8 lbs 4ozs.
I'm a FTM so no experience but my fundal height has been measuring a week or so ahead for a few months and LO was measuring 5lb7oz (growth u/s) at 32wks(not sure if that is big for baby or not?)- I'm now 34w4d and fundal measuring 35. My dr said she will not induce due to size (which is good, I don't want to be induced) but that around 39w if I'm still measuring big that she will probably do another growth u/s to check and if baby is really big we will have to talk about c-section- which I also don't want! I feel like I can push her out or at I least want to try and then have a c/s if all else fails! We shall see! Hoping that all measurements are wrong and she comes out around 8lb or smaller and right on time!
My baby measured on the us 6 13oz. But the are rounding down this was at 34 weeks. But my doctor won't do a scheduled c section unless it's looking like he will be 11lbs. She said that's the cutoff. I surprised to hear many moms getting one well before that. Must be up to the doc.
Mine was 7+lbs at 36w. I'm a FTM so I have no idea if it'll turn out to be accurate, but my OB was concerned enough to order another u/s if I get close to 41w and haven't delivered yet. We'll talk potential c-section then, depending on the results.
My fundal height was measuring ahead when baby was breech and is still measuring ahead now that baby is finally head down.
Why are your OBs talking about scheduling C-sections for estimated weights!?! A. You can not possibly know what a newborn will weigh until they are born and B. An 8 or 9 lb baby isn't "too big".. There is no way to know how your pelvis opens up and makes "room" for the baby until labor is occuring.. Wouldn't they see what your body is doing, and then assess whether a surgery is appropriate?

Well, I trust my OB. She's not talking of scheduling a c-section now but if I go over 41w and the ultrasound measures a legitimate growth gain (we'll have the 36w u/s as a baseline, so if baby measures 9lbs that's not an issue, but 10lbs+ might be) she might recommend a c-section over induction.
I was over 9lbs when I was born at 37w. If there's one thing I would like to avoid more than a c-section, is laboring for hours and hours, the baby getting stuck, and then requiring a c-section, or worse still, an emergency resulting from shoulder dystocia.
Ive been measuring big (abdominaly and on ultrasound) this whole pregnancy, about 2.5 weeks ahead. Im at the 85th% and my doc said if i hit 90 or over, that we'll have the c-section conversation. So for now, I guess we are just sitting and waiting it out. I have another ultrasound on Monday (I get them every 4 weeks due to a cyst gone rogue) so i'll know more then.
I measured big with all of mine. They were 9 and 10 lbs. If they're measuring fundal height it could be big due to your amniotic fluid level or the baby or the position. Even with an ultrasound the weight could be off by 1 lb either way. I wouldnt' get to worked up about it. I am surprised that so many doctors would go right to a C-section vs. a scheduled induction especially for FTMs, but I guess it's a personal preference.
Side note: This baby has been measuring a week behind the whole time, and I'm expecting nothing smaller than 9 lbs and being induced on my due date.
My midwife said they won't induce for a big baby, but will start to consider a c-section if the baby is over 11.5 pounds. Her words: "The baby's size isn't the end all. I've seen women totally struggle to birth 6 pound babies and I've seen 11 pound babies come flying out."
My LO measured ahead by a few weeks at my last growth US, 5.5lbs at 32 weeks. They are going to do a last growth ultrasound two weeks before DD, and if they think she is 11lbs or over then we will be planning for a c section. Fingers crossed we won't have to go that route!
Have been measuring big since anatomy scan. Have to have growth ultrasound this week to see how big baby is. Said we would review results and then discuss options, just makes me nervous thinking about a c-section...
Re: Experience with baby measuring big?
How are they measuring? Fundal height can measure big (or small) due to position and u/s can be off + or - as well.
New doctor, different state and they're telling me again that he will be 8 or bigger.

Not an issue here because I have c-sections.
