That sounds AWFUL!  I have no experience other than having a hemorrhoid which hurts like a mother f#$%#$ at times.  My suggestion if you aren't already, and this goes for all the mama's out there.  Invest in flushable wipes.  We get these at Costco and they are just as good as the Cottonelle brand but way cheaper.  Using regular toilet paper is like using sand paper on those puppies.

Edit for additional info:  Also, I know it sounds ridiculous and gross, but get some hydrocortozone cream (and some latex gloves if you can use them) and apply this after going to the bathroom.  It will at least help with the burning from the diarrhea.

  • I'm so sorry :(  Mine aren't as bad as yours now, but they were pre-pregnancy from some medications I was on.  And PrepH interacts with my daily med, so here are the natural things that have helped me.  My PCP stressed to me back then that the most important thing is to keep things soft down there so you aren't straining.  (Stress: these help, but don't cure)

    1. Avoid eating nuts in their whole form.  They don't digest fully and have a tendency to tear / scratch / etc.  Smooth peanut butter, etc. is fine.
    2. Increase fiber.  I eat a fiber one bar every afternoon.
    3. Eat prunes.  They aren't my favorite thing, but they sure do work.  I have 3-4 when I get home at night.
    4. Witch hazel compresses.  I soak a cotton ball at least twice a day and stick it between the cheeks, then leave it.  Usually it's morning and night, but if I'm home and feeling a little sore or actually manage to poo mid-day I do one then too.  It reduces the swelling drastically and is pretty soothing.  Given that this is the liquid used in wipes for cloth diapering, I figure if it's safe enough for a baby's bum it's safe enough for mine!

If you're still absolutely miserable there are prescription solutions (I use analpram -- nice name, huh?).  They're all category C, but from everything I've heard and read it's first trimester concerns.

Good luck!  I'm so sorry.  I know it's miserable.

  • Hope it gets better soon! I can imagine you are miserable!!!
  • Another vote for Fiber One bars.   They do help, and they are quite yummy.   Sorry you have to go through this.  They're not funny, though I think Raging Sulphur Farts would be a really good name for a high school rock band.

Sorry! I've just now @ 29 weeks experienced bad bleeding from hemmoroids and very smelly farts ( I gross myself out!) I will try the witch hazel thing and see if it helps. Good luck!
And I eat Fiber One bars everyday, got a giant pack at Cost Co, the chocolate chip ones, actually very tasty!
