My LO is just 7.5 months and is usually a great eater ( bottles and puree food) but not lately. At about 6 months she became a fussy eater (solids only) and refused to eat anything. I gave her a break for a few days and when I started back on solids she was fine and took everything again. However for almost 2 weeks now she has been very fussy with solids and bottles. She will take the first half of her bottle fine and then the second half she just spits out and moves her head around like shes full. Sometimes I can get her to take the whole the whole thing if I feed her in the rocker and "sshhh" her the entire time. Solids are an immediate fuss with lips pinched, head turning and crying. And these are foods that she used to love so I know she likes it. The only food she will take is avacado. I have tried a break from food for a couple days but did not help. She is really only taking 16-20oz of formula and maybe 6tbsp of food if I give in and just feed her avacado. No teeth and no signs of teething either. Not sure what else to do. Any suggestions.
Re: fussy eater
At this age they are learning a tiny bit of control. One thing they can control right now is food. This theme continues well into toddler & beyond. Some babies recognize that food = power long before others. Right now though, it sounds like your DD is genuinely refusing for a reason. That reason might be a mystery to you, but roll with it.
Some things to consider:
Does she want to try exerting some independence over eating? Try a sippy cup or letting her use the spoon. Yes, she will make a mess. It's part of learning to eat. However, allowing her some agency with solids or her milk might get more in her belly.
Try adding some light seasoning. DD & DS discovered that seasoning makes food fun. A little variety may make the solids interesting to her again.
Good luck!
