Measuring 4 weeks ahead - anyone else?

Today, my doc confirmed that I'm measuring at 36 weeks - actual is 32w2d. I've certainly felt like my weight gain has come in waves/spurts rather than being a gradual amount per week. The books I've read haven't really indicated whether or not that is normal. And I passed my glucose screening, so no concern there. She scheduled me for an ultrasound to check on him. Has anyone else been through this? What was the cause and/or outcome?

  • I'd say growth spurt. I was measuring a few weeks ahead 2 weeks ago. Today at my appt. I'm right on schedule again. I do have GD though, but my doctor isn't worried and said that babies go through growth spurts at different times.

  • Me.

DD is measuring 3 weeks ahead. Confirmed on u/s last week that it is indeed her measuring HUGE (she was estimated at 6 lbs at just 32 weeks). I also have GD and as of last Tues am on insulin.

Plan is an u/s in a couple weeks to monitor her, twice weekly NSTs (for the GD), and one last u/s at about 38 weeks to confirm her size and position (frank breech right now).

  • I'm measuring 4 weeks ahead. At 31 weeks I had and ultrasound showing baby was measuring 35 weeks and weighing 5lbs. 6oz. I passed my GD test so he is just a big baby. My last daughter was born at 36 weeks weighing 7lbs. 11oz. I have another ultrasound at 36 weeks to check size again.

  • I didn't measure 4 weeks ahead but I measured 29 weeks at 27 weeks. They did a growth check and she was right where she was supposed to be. They said sometimes the position of the baby can affect how you measure. No GD for me either. So they've just left it alone.
  • @kat8805‌ good call, I was too lazy to post my link!
  • At 30 weeks LO "weighed" in at 4.7 and at 32 weeks 5.11. Her measurements all put her around 35 weeks. I measured 33 wks. The Dr wasn't concerned, but did schedule another growth check for 36 weeks.

  • Good to know others in the same boat. None of my 3 sisters-in-law across their 5 pregnancies had this issue and was just curious. Thanks for sharing!

  • At our last u/s LO's head was right on track measurement wise and her limbs were 4 weeks ahead! She is going to be a long baby! As long as the head is on track I'm fine though lol. I would not let it worry you. they will keep an eye out for anything troubling.

*side note ppl keep saying that to me.. "still growing?" yes I hope so you idiot.. what a dumb thing to say to a pregnant woman….

  • I always measured 2 weeks ahead for the last 11 weeks with my pregnancy with DS1. Like you, I seemed to gain my weight in spurts rather than gradually. Seems to be going that way again, although I am not measuring big this time. At one of my 4 week appts, I had gained 1 lb from the last appt, the next time I had gained ELEVEN over 4 weeks, then this last one I had gained 2 lbs over 4 weeks. It's very random for me. I am heading into another spurt b/c I've gained at least another 6-7 so far since my last appt.

But anyway, with DS1 I measured 2 weeks ahead until the end and they told me he was going to be 9 lbs, huge baby, etc. He was 7 lbs 13 oz and born 3 days before his due date. So they were definitely a little off. I personally think I just retained a lot of fluid.

This. Keep in mind the measurements are basically just educated guesses. Mine was measuring a little heavy at 30 weeks. The doctor said it could be a growth spurt, could be related to my diabetes, could be accurate, could be a little off. Only time will tell!

  • I already commented but had my appt today. Still measuring ahead because of fluid so thy aren't doing anything since baby is on track. I wouldn't worry about it. Some baby's are just bigger than others :)

When I get comments similar to this, I like to reply with "yes, and we're trying for twins."
I like the confused looks when they hear that.
