Measles outbreak

You may have seen in the news that there is a recent measles outbreak in the US. Started in NY moved to Cali and now there are reports in my area

I know it is super contagious and most of our LOs are too young for the vaccine. Any tips or ideas how to keep us extra safe? (Aside from never leaving my house again?)

I have no idea how to prevent more.. it just makes me sad that we were rid of it, now it is back.

I don't have any tips, I'm just glad LO will be getting his on 3/31 at his 12 month appt. I'm tempted to call and ask them to move it up.

The fact that we are even having this discussion in 2014 makes me ill. That's so sad... Clearly I have no advice.

Yea apparently it's spreading pretty rapidly here in Cali. So far there are 32 confirmed cases which is double the number it was this time last year.

It's in California now?! *runs to the Internet* Fml, seven of the cases are in Orange County. First MMR vaccine is at the 12-month appointment, right? I wonder if they can do it early...

They can't do the MMR before the 12 month birthday unfortunately. I tried to stagger the MMR and chicken pox with my son by two weeks, and they wouldn't do either before 12months. Maybe the outbreak will change the recommendation?

The best thing you can do is make sure you are properly vaccinated. Kids most often get things like this from their under vaccinated parents. (Whooping cough for example...)

A few years ago CDC recommended an early MMR for babies ages 6-12 months who were traveling to certain measles hot spots in Europe. If we were in an outbreak area I would ask for an early vaccine. That's just me though

@bibliophileemily Yea there are 10 in Los Angeles County too. They say a lot of these areas are heavily populated with people who've recently traveled to Philippines, India, & Vietnam.

This outbreak is scary. We've had many cases (children and adults) at my hospital in NYC . It's highly contagious so I'm just avoiding taking the baby out unless I have to. The only tip would be to avoid other ppl unfortunately.
