I know all babies are different but I'm trying to figure out how many clothes to buy in NB sizes. So STM+, how long did your LO wear NB sizes?

Never--they would have fit but I jumped right to 0-3mo so I didn't have to buy NB sizes.

Re: How long did your LO wear new born sizes?

  • I said about a month but it really depended on brand. He out grew his nb sleepers first because of his length.

  • I went by sleepers and I put 1-2 weeks. It was more like 2-3, but not a month. (for both of my kids, they were 7lb7oz and 7lb5oz at birth)

  • Around 2-3 months so I voted 3 months.  My daughter was 6.6 lbs at birth and always seemed to wear the size of her age.  At 6 months she wore size 6 months and now at age 3 she wears size 3t.
  • About 2 minutes. Lol. He was in a 3 month sleeper from day one. Nb clothes were a touch too small, but 3 months were a bit big so we just rolled the sleeves

    Now we are complete.

  • DS was 6 pounds 1 ounce and 20 inches long I grow them long and skinny and was in newborn until over 2 months. He could have fit in 0-3 month but I hate baby clothes being too big.
  • DD was 7lbs 15 oz at birth, but went home at 7lbs 9oz. She wore NB size for about 2 weeks, but not all brands of NB. They are not all made equal!

  • I think I was given 50 newborn pieces at my shower. I guess I'll start with the ones I really like!

  • At 10 lbs 2 oz and 22 inches long, DS never fit into anything newborn.  He outgrew 0-3 in the first 2-3 weeks too.

  • Both born between 6-7lbs and only stayed in nb clothes for a month each.
  • DD was 7lbs 14oz.  At the most it was 3 wks I would say.  Interesting thing about NB clothes is I have found that a baby that weighs more could actually fit in smaller sizes than a baby that weighs less.  I guess they just carry their weight differently.  It makes it hard to predict.

  • Probably about 2 weeks, depending on the brand. Gap onesies tended to run big, while Gerbers seemed tiny. DD was 8 lbs, 2 oz, 20 in.
  • My son was 8lbs 4oz and he was in NB or a month. He was a bit bigger but carried his weight so he's always fit into smaller clothes

Holy smokes! My family has big babies and my doctor said she definitely feels big, but I hope she at least fits in her 0-3 for a while, we have sooooo many of those size! I've already accepted newborns probably aren't going to fit or at least not for long.

  • Well....I decided I needed to buy at least some NB stuff because we didn't get ANY for our shower and I didn't buy any before because I thought that was all we were going to get for our shower.  $130 later I think we will have plenty......ooops!!  I will probably keep most of the tags on until she gets here so I can return if need be.  Today all of the baby stuff was just looking too cute to pass up!!!

  • @spano41‌ I'm so glad you asked this!!! We are in the same boat. We didn't buy any clothes at all before the showers because we thought we would get a ton. We ended up getting almost none, with probably two NB size outfits. And all of the hand-me-downs we got so far are 12 mos +... It's helpful to know what we should anticipate!
  • DD weighed 7lbs 2 oz at birth and went home from hospital at 6 lbs and 8 oz. She wore nb for 2-3 months and has always been in the size or slightly smaller than her age. At 21 months now she is still in 18 months clothes.

  • Has anyone tried those onesie extenders? Are they worth it or do they just make ridiculously high cut leg holes?

didn't really get that many clothes for my shower which is funny because I even registered for clothes (against the advice of others). I purchased a really cute newborn layette set with 4 coordinating onesies, two pairs of pants, two hats, and hand mitts at Target the day before... I was considering putting it back because I figured I'd get tons of that stuff at my shower.
  • We really didn't buy any NB sizes. DD would have fit into them (born 7lb13oz but lost over a lb in the hospital and took 3 weeks to get back up) but we just did gowns at the beginning + a few NB handmedown outfits (but I honestly don't know how long those lasted...maybe 3-4 weeks?).

  • DS was 8lbs, 9oz and 21 inches long. He still wore preemie clothes for a week or two and NB for a few months.

  • DD (7,1) wore nb for 3 wks, DS (8,13) went straight to 0-3 and only wore that for a couple weeks.

  • DD1 was born at 8 lb 1 oz and she was swimming in newborn at first. She finally outgrew it around 5-6 weeks. It also depended on what type of clothing it was. She always outgrows sleepers the fastest but the nice thing about those is, you don't have to buy according to season with sleepers. Our house is always around 70 so she could wear fleece or cotton.
