In response to one asshole, work has started blocking a ton of websites, including anything shopping related. WTH. So far, the bump has not been affected.
Since, at my work, the breaker still flips when I microwave and try to use my computer plus I got in an argument with one of my co-workers who thinks Yahoo is a web browser, I don't think they are going to figure out how to track my computer usage anytime soon.
When I was working they blocked all internet because a handful of people couldn't be responsible with it. It was no fun when I had to work weekends with light patient loads!
Almost all of our internet is blocked, with the exception of our company website.
We are only allowed to use IE and I needed access to Firefox to get access to some documents we needed for a vendor. IT had to put Firefox on my laptop and I've had open access to everything since.
I think those creeper services can do as much harm as good. Blocking, okay and pretty effective. Creeping, debatable on both accounts.
Just like surveillance cameras. I didn't install surveillance in our shop. Just cameras at the overhead shop doors. I didn't want my people thinking I was spying on them. That's not how you encourage productivity. I guess I feel the same way about internet monitoring. It almost challenges/encourages people to get around it - by using phone internet, etc. It makes people want to say 'fuck you and your spying' when they should be doing their job.
We have a ton of stuff blocked at work, including youtube. But not TB!
Yep, YouTube is blocked too, which is kind of a problem since we have a channel for work. They're going to have to loosen the reigns on some of this stuff.
Youtube was blocked for teachers when I taught HS.
3-4 weeks ahead of time, you had to fill out a form to request access from the tech department - the form took 20 minutes to fill out per vid and had to be printed out and taken to the office. Tech would put each individual video on its own CD-Rom. Four 2 minute vids? Four pieces of paper and 4 discs. :-? What the fuck.
I fought the school on it and took it to the board meeting... they didn't trust teachers and decided lesson plans should be prepared a month in advance (el oh el). In the end a private donor contacted me to donate a cellular internet card. When something bio came up in the news, I could show my kids real-time info.
I once worked for a company that gave us "Oueue Time" we got 5 minutes at a time on up to six websites a day that were otherwise blocked. Not including social media and Victoria Secret which they categorized as pornography. Those were always blocked. They found a new system when people started complaining because we needed certain websites to work.
The feds blocked FB for a day once in 2009. Ha! So many people complained they opened it back up. Makes me so happy {sarcasm}to know how many federal employees are on FB during the day.

uh. Do you need shopping websites for your job? if not, I wouldn't complain.
And, I thought you weren't complaining about your job for Lent?
Wrong, I'm not complaining about my colleagues for Lent. Policies are open to complaint ;-)
I don't need shopping sites, but I do need Craigslist, YouTube and other social media, etc. I updated that they loosened the restrictions today though for directors and above.
Re: Well, this sucks
That is a bummer.
