St. Pat's Day Babies

I'm due next Sunday so it's really any day now... If I hear one more person say I should have him/ her tomorrow and I can name him Patrick if it's a boy I will punch them. There is zero chance I will name my baby Patrick if born tomorrow. I'd actually like to hold him/ her in an additional day so I don't have to deal with the holiday baby and the "creative" people suggesting Patrick or Patty... Ugh

Re: St. Pat's Day Babies

  • I am late so I wouldn't mind a St. Patty's Day baby just for the sake of having a baby.

  • My nephew will be born tomorrow (RCS) and it never even crossed my mind to joke about naming him Patrick. People are lame.
Bubba, born Jan. 2007 * Sissy, born Apr. 2009 * Baby Sister, born Feb. 2014
  • People and family are doing this to us as well, but with girl names. And I'm not even due til the 28th. I feel your pain .... If I hear one more "ohhhh she's gonna have to be named Shannon" I might let loose and scream at someone. Ppl have no filters.

  • I agree @Jessabelly‌ I will do everything possible to keep baby in past tomorrow. Not only is it st. patty's day but also my brother and SIL's anniversary. Normally that wouldn't bother me but I already share my birthday with my brother (he's 3 years older than me) and I'd prefer not to "steal" another special day of his! Lol
  • It would be fantastic for me to have my lo tomorrow (running a little over due) but I agree it is no excuse to name him Patrick. I have gotten that from so many people it's just super annoying now.

  • I would be fine with delivering tomorrow simply because I have found the cutest hat for new born st pattys day pics. But his name would not be Patrick lol / plus I think it would be cool to do a at pats day first birthday theme lol
  • I'm actually due tomorrow, and thankfully haven't had anybody talk about the "Irish" name thing with me. That sounds super obnoxious!!! For me, I think it would be kind cool and kinda sucky for LO to be born tomorrow all at the same time...DH's family is Irish and so it would mean a lot to them (plus we all get together for a little party on St. Patrick's Day anyway), but it would be kind of sucky for her to not get her own day.

  • I'm due on the 24th, but MH and I were really hoping our little lady would decide to show up early and arrive tomorrow. Maybe that makes us weird, but we thought it would be fun. Doctor said it would take a miracle for her to come tomorrow.
  • I had a similar experience with Valentines Day. People kept insisting I would go into labor that day and if I did I should name DS Valentino. Um, no. Thankfully he decided to wait a few more days before making his appearance. People are annoying.
  • I would worry about what is 21st birthday would look like - especially if he was away at college!

This! I really want this baby to come, but the thought of this has terrified me for weeks! DH says the 18th would be a good bday because, when LO is on college, everyone will be too hungover to party a second night in a row... I'm skeptical but it gives me hope :)

  • You know, "dealing" with a St. Patty's Day baby is really no big deal. No pun intended. It's not like Christmas...and even if it was, I'd bet you'd just be happy to have your LO in your arms. My DD is 2 today - we call her our lucky charm! After two losses, that's what she really is. Third times a charm sort of thing.... For her first birthday, we didn't do a Patty's day theme, but instead a rainbow theme. Since she's our pot of gold and all. It turned out fabulous! A birthday party I'll never forget! :)
It all depends where you live. If you live in Boston or Chicago, it will be a BIG deal.  If you're not Irish or not big on celebrating it (or hate green like my DH due to stupid sports allegiances), then it could be a really annoying thing to deal with! I'm with OP, I'm glad I made it this far (FTM, so even if I go into labor right this second I doubt she'll be born on 3/17).

  • Today is our anniversary and I was secretly hoping he would be born today. But his name would still not be Patrick.

  • Today is my due date and although I too fear her college days and her liver calling SOS, I'm fine with her coming anytime!! My mom has been giving me the same you better name her Erin or something Irish if she comes today.. I have a Liam Patrick who's 4 and was born 4/25 so she thinks it'd be unfair for him to have the Irish name if she's got the Irish birthday.. I told her I don't care.. I just want her out, whatever name I choose!

  • I would love it if today was the day... and I'm Scottish not Irish but with my name and maiden name people always assume... plus green is my favorite color.  All I can say is bring it!

  • Boston mom here so, yes, that might be shading my opinion. I'll admit though, that I'm torn -- I'd really just like him to come and, at this point, wouldn't actually be upset if he chose today to do so :)

  • I'm 50% Irish ... My first thought about possibly going into labor today is how nervous I will be once our son is in college. March is spring break + St Patrick's day for a boy who is Irish who has family that still lives in Southie.... The worrying begins now... lol.

I also had a fear I would go into labor on 3/14... Aka pi day. My husband and I are very good at math and, because DH has his dorky moments, likes to point out how that means our son will be a math genius... If LO was born on 3.14 DH would have had a field day... OMG no thank you haha

This was my DH too! He wanted lo to be born on pi day soooo badly that he came home from work with rrl tea and 2 pineapples lol. It was so nerdy and cute.

  • One of my best friends birthdays is today, and she HATES that it's st Patricks day. She has never been able to go out to a bar for her birthday without it being packed with drunk obnoxious people. But... I guess some people would like that...

Heh, I never want to go out to a bar for my birthday anyway, so this did not occur to me.....

We had Theo today :) and yes I am scared of his 21st birthday and yes - EVERYONE asked if he was going to be named Patrick!

Edit: by today I mean march 17, since I am still awake ;)
  • I am 100% not bothered by the thought of having a St. Patrick's baby or an April Fool's baby. A Pi day baby might have been fun 'cuz I am a dork. (If I was due in October I might get into a Mole Day baby: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mole_Day)

It seems like such a total non-issue to me. They will have a birthday, and there will be a holiday, and......whatever. The depth of my lack of caring is difficult to express in words.

I just don't get what the problem is. My little sister's birthday is July 5 and mine is July 6. We had a big family party on the 4th with birthday presents and a flag cake and fireworks. It was fun.

I never felt cheated or annoyed and my parents never felt they should have named us Justice and Liberty or anything foolish like that.

Just had to say that my moms birthday is July 4th, and mine is July 8th! I always loved having a big 4th of July/ birthday party to celebrate! People we always fascinated that my moms last name/ my maiden name is Eagle as well! I guess we are just very patriotic.
