Parenting after a Loss

***Healthy Living Check In***

I hope everyone is having a Happy St Paddy's Day! This week has already been interesting since the ground is covered in SNOW again. We'll hopefully everyone can avoid all the potato based Irish dishes and beer today.

Just a quick bit of information to anyone who'd like to join you don't have to be on an official diet to join us, the only requirement is you've got a plan of some sort and a goal.

-So, how successful were you this week with your goal? Did you run into any obstacles?

-Any physical activity this week?

-Are you guys interested in healthy meal planning?

GTKY: What has been your best St Patricks's day experience?

Re: ***Healthy Living Check In***

  • We'll I was pretty successful in banishing French fries and potato products. I did slip and have some fat free dressing (because lettuce alone gets bland after awhile) and cheese on my pasta last night. I think pasta might be my next big ban. My biggest obstacle is cooking for people who like cheesy pasta dishes.

We'll I'm proud of my self. Four total walks with the boys in. Two on Saturday.

I might be interested in the meal ideas...basically stealing them from other people.

We'll my best St Paddy's days were 2 years I went to Chicago for spring break with my college boyfriend who was from Chicago & half Irish. UKs spring break always is St Paddy's week so other than the cold it was fun.

  • -So, how successful were you this week with your goal? Did you run into any obstacles?  I had to basically start over.  I had a horrible weekend (food-wise) with Phoebe's birthday party. We ate tons of junk and drank plenty of beer.  Today I started a 21 day challenge with this local health food store.  They cook, do the portion size, pick the food, and tell me when to eat.  It's a bit pricey, but I figured it's only 21 days and maybe I'll get some good ideas to better incorporate healthy meals after this.

-Any physical activity this week?  Still going to the gym for the elliptical machine a few times a week.  I did do some light weights in my living room this morning too.

-Are you guys interested in healthy meal planning?  Yes, but after my 21 day challenge.  Right now, I'm so glad that I don't have to plan and think and cook.  Today's food planned for me was: protein bar while getting ready this morning, breakfast once I got to work of steak, eggs, and potatoes, lunch of chicken tacos, afternoon snack of diced chicken and fruit, dinner is chicken lettuce wraps.  It all sounds great, but there's no way I would have time to cook something like this.

GTKY: What has been your best St Patricks's day experience?  Ugh, I've had some terrible St. Patrick's day experiences.  I'll blame it on my "young wild years".  As a responsible adult, my best experience was getting to dress up Phoebe this morning in green.  She looked so cute!

  • @FmrAFBrat I know exactly what you mean.  DH can eat anything, and it's so dang hard to cook for him while trying to eat healthy for me.

But guys can be overweight and get away with it. All the overweight guys I know feel it's their duty to let women know they are fat.

Oh, DH is opposite.  He's skinny fat.  He eats junk if I don't cook, like hot dogs and frozen pizza.  He'll also be the one to skip the gym and actually lose weight.  So irritating.

  • --Success/obstacles:  Down another 0.4 pounds last week.  Obstacles are that my discipline is flagging.  I know and am the first to say that weight loss takes time, but I'm tired of being so diligent with my eating. I have been so careful since starting WW and I've lost 4.8 pounds.  Yes, 4.8 more pounds than I may have lost without WW, but for all the care I've taken it seems like so little. I went off plan this morning and ate a scone.  I feel badly about it but it is what it is and I got it out of my system.  Time to get back on the horse.

--Physical activity:  DH signed me up at the fitness center near our house, and I went yesterday for 30 minutes while DD and DS' naps overlapped and DH minded the house.  20 minutes on the treadmill and a few free weight arm exercises and I had to get back to the house.  Not sure if it was even worth it.

--Meal planning: Probably not.  DH does all the shopping and cooking, so I probably would not have much to contribute.  But I'll enjoy reading any posts.

--GTKY:  A friend and I ditched high school to go to the St. Patrick's Day parade downtown.  In our catholic school uniforms.  Needless to say we had a blast.  Something we could never do today, with social media our parents would have probably tracked us down.  LOL.
