Installing rear-facing child car safety seat at proper angle.. Your thoughts?

There is so many conflicting arguments out there on this subject.  What do you ladies recommend?

  • What seat do you have? What car?

  • Read your manual and install how it says. If you need help with an install contact a CPST technician to teach you how to properly install. Don't just take it to the firestation or policestation. Most are not certified techs. Check out the SafeKids website to find a tech near you.

  • Like the other ladies said, it should be installed according to manufacturers instructions.  They test the seats at those angles and that is how they passed the crash tests.  If you install it at an angle that is not specifically recommended, I would imagine there is no guarantee that the seat will function properly in case of an emergency.

Car Seats for the Littles is a great group on Facebook to join.  There are techs that post there and answer many questions and can help troubleshoot if you're having a hard time fitting the seat in your car.

I agree with all the PP's. That said, I have no idea what you are asking or what the 'conflicting arguments' are. All seats have a correct angle. The seats must be installed at the correct angle because that is how they passes testing. Using an incorrect angle could very likely cause the seat to not protect your child like it was designed to. Incorrect carseat angles can also pose asphyxiation risks to infants.

I also suggest joining Car Seats for the Littles on Facebook. It's a wealth of knowledge!
