Hey everyone, I need to have a csection even though I'm a FTM due to previous uterine surgery. My doc schedule it for 37 weeks. Seems a bit early to me, when did other folks have csections scheduled for structural issues?
My doc let me schedule it after my due date. But they are ok with me going into labor. They probably don't want your uterus to contract very much. But I wouldn't want them to take my baby that soon either. Maybe talk to your doc and see if they'll move it back a few weeks.
My son was a c section at 38 weeks and this LO is scheduled for 38 weeks also. I think your dr is just playing it safe by not wanting you to go into labor, but like everything else with pregnancy if you are concerned you should ask.
My OB and the hospital will not allow me to be scheduled any earlier than 39 weeks, so I'm currently scheduled at exactly 39 weeks. Fingers crossed that I don't have any issues or complications that would necessitate me having her any earlier.

We scheduled for 39 weeks with my first two, but I ended up delivering my daughter pre-term at 35w6. Since my uterus ruptured with her delivery, they don't want me going into labor at all this pregnancy (too late), and they won't let me wait any later than 38 weeks. However, my OB thinks it's not even worth it to schedule until a week out, as he doesn't think I'll make it that far given how early PTL set in this time.
If I hadn't had the PTL this time, I was hoping that we could make it to 38 weeks and then go on strict monitoring to see if we could hold off until 39. You might be able to ask your doctor if that's a possibility.
I had my son at 38 weeks and he was perfect, I'm scheduled for this one at 39 weeks. They like to make sure anything after 36 weeks your baby's lungs are developed
I'm scheduled for 5/26 (DD is 5/30), mostly because my sister is getting married on 5/25 and I'm a bridesmaid. My OB wanted to schedule it for a week before my DD (5/23). Now that I'm pretty close to bedrest, I'm hoping LO can keep cooking until then!
Yeah, my doc doesn't want me to go into labour. I would rather at least try to get more baking time in, with the understanding that if I start earlier I should go in immediately, but she wanted 37. On the bright side, since I was end of May, I'm still (barely) in May 2014
Looks like she may be a bit on the conservative side, datewise, but within the normal range then? The fact that I had some pretty serious BH a couple of weeks ago may also have influenced her decision.
I am also a FTM with a prior uterine surgery. My doctor still has not informed us of our scheduled
date.We are a bit unhappy with her
right now…My Fertility specialist (who
we love and was AMAZING) did my myomectomy last year.He said we should schedule the C-section at
37 weeks. When discussing the C-section
at the first appointment (at 10 weeks) after I got the BFP and was released to
my OBGYN (who assisted in the myomectomy) she said she was uneasy with 37
weeks, and felt better about 38 weeks. We asked her to just please discuss with the Fertility specialist to
make sure there was not a really good reason why he was saying 37 weeks. They both did the surgery, they both were in
there and saw what was happening…Well
cut to the last few months’ worth of appointments.Every time we discuss it with my OBGYN, she
acts like we have never talked about a C-section before! Then, one appointment she says she is going
to schedule it for 39 weeks??????First
off, I live an hour and a half away from the hospital I am delivering at.I don’t feel comfortable waiting till 39
weeks when you say that you DO NOT want me going into labor. And what happed to confirming with the
Fertility specialist???Her response was
“Oh yeah, I will call him…”Then the
next appointment “I left him a message but he is on vacation…”Then my next appointment my OBGYN was on
vacation.Sigh.So now I am 33 weeks and still no idea when
it is scheduled.I don’t have another
appointment till next week.I plan on
calling the office and trying to speak to her on the phone.Hopefully I can pin her down on a date.
I'd say 37w is early, in a normal situation, but it doesn't sound like your situation is that. I'd trust your Dr, and if you have any concerns, take them up with her. Mine wouldn't even schedule my RCS a day before 39w due to the change in fullterm, yet the Dr back in my home state who delivered DD1 was more than happy to schedule at 38w. DD1 was an ECS scheduled on her EDD, but she decided to arrive after my 38w internal check. I have a feeling DD2 will be the same way.
But your question does bring up an issue my Dr doesn't seem to be considering, having a previous scar and not planning for a VBAC don't seem to be on his radar, so thank you for asking.

I know that feeling, every time I talked to my doc she was like "Csection? What Csection?" And we had to go through the entire discussion again... Just finally got the date!
Distance to hospital is also probably a factor, as my travel time to the hospital would range from 20 minutes to 2 hours in normal traffic, and if there's a Red Sox game going on walking might be the fastest option...
I'm having a csection due to prior uterine surgery as well. My Ob told me to schedule it between 37-38w. I asked if we could go to 39w but she didn't want to take the risk of me going into labor, so I scheduled it at 38w. DD was at 38w as well and she came out perfect. My hospital won't allow to schedule csections before 39w unless medically necessary btw.

I'm being scheduled for 37 weeks also because of placenta previa. I also want to push for later, but my OB doesn't want me going into any kind of labor... So, your doc isn't alone in such an early date. Keep us posted if it gets moved to later - I may try to delay at least a few more days still!
