Confused, can someone explain?

Hi ladies, so I'm a little confused. The doctor told us that due to a single defect out baby has we have a 1/25 chance of it been due to other things luke certain syndromes. Does the 1/25 mean out of 25 babies with the same defect or just 25 babies in general? Thank you :)

Hard to tell exactly what your Dr. said from your post but it sounds like (s)he was saying that out of every 25 babies that present with this defect, one of them is due to a "certain syndrome" whatever that means.

  • It's early, but I'm pretty sure that means 1 out of 25 babies (in general) would have the defect. So if you walked into a daycare with 25 babies, 1 of those babies would have it.

Good luck to you guys, hope little one is ok!

  • Thanks ladies, my doctor is obviously useless. I don't think he even knows what he's talking about half the time. Thanks again
  • I understand if your not comfortable doing so, but if you would like to share what "defect" and what "syndrome" you're referencing, there may be someone on the board who is going through the same thing and can share their experiences with you. I know quite a few ladies here have dealt with a variety of odds/percentages when it comes to Down's syndrome for example.

  • I didn't go into detail as I had previously pested you ladies before when we found out at 20 weeks. Baby has bilateral talipes (clubfeet) and doctor pretty much just threw a bunch of numbers and names of syndromes at us without explaining much else. I've resorted to googling but that wasn't a good idea. Hope this helps you all help me a bit more. Thanks.
  • Sorry that your doctor didn't clarify for you. I think the pediatrician suggestion is a good one. Good luck and T&P's for your LO.

  • I pretty much agree with @lizardbreath14 - I don't have anything else to add, just wanted to say that I think she is awesome, as was her response.  Carry on. :)

  • @lizardbreath14‌ downs and Edward syndrome were the ones that were mentioned by the doctor. We did refuse the Amnio as they didn't offer it to us until 24 weeks and it wouldn't really change anything for us anyway. I will look into seeing a paediatrician. They have referred us to a physiotherapist for baby's feet, I don't understand why they didn't get us to see a paediatrician if they were so concerned. Thanks for your reply. I agree with the others, you are pretty awesome
