Naps - how often and how long?

How often does your LO nap and for how long?  LO sleeps 15 minutes here and 15 minutes there (sometimes longer) throughout the day, but he doesn't really take a lengthy nap.  However, he does sleep well at night.

Should he be napping more during the day or does that happen more when they get older?  I keep reading that sleep begets sleep, but he does sleep well at night.  He will be 8 weeks tomorrow.

I have no idea about 'shoulds', but my LO is 5W and sleeps for 15 min after most feedings and usually has a 2-3 hour nap during the day. Sometimes two. And then in the evening he's sleeping from about 6pm to 6am, and waking every 3-4 hours for food.

  • @Beachbumm2214‌ @MissDemeanor‌ Please teach me your ways.. LO is up every 1.5 hrs at night and only sleeps for 45 min in increments during the day. He eats every 2 hrs during the day. He is 5 weeks tomorrow and BF (he refuses a bottle right now)

I want a 2 hr nap at night at least (DH has been out of town for work during the week)

I wish I could pretend I had some sort of awesome ways. I think it's just that Reece is a great eater. Literally the moment they put him on my stomach he started making eating faces. So when his tummy is full, he sleeps really well.  I try follow his natural routine, but shift it slightly to suit us too.

  • DD is still very unpredictable. That, or I'm just not noticing patterns. Most days, she eats, has about an hour of wake time, then sleeps anywhere from 15min-2hours. She sleeps more at night. Last night, she ate at 9:30, asleep around 11:30. No wakeups until 6:30! Then she ate, and slept 7-9:30. Ate, slept 10:30-1:30 (I woke her up). Ate, slept 2:30 or 3:00-5:30 (I woke her up). Ate, slept 7-9. Ate. Actually spent about 2 hours awake, and should be ready for bed..

  • DS kind of clusters his naps. He is awake for a stretch of like 2+ hours in the morning (like from one feed to the next) and then he'll sleep for a few hours in the morning, eat his "lunch", sleep for another few hours, and then be awake for a good stretch at night. We're 6 weeks and juuuust starting to settle into more of a pattern.
  • DD loves to sleep. Not sure how long it will last but I'm enjoying it for now! She takes 2 good naps a day- 1-2 hours, with a long wakeful stretch in between. That wakeful period can be rough. She is happy for the first half hour but then nothing works. She sleeps good at night- wakes twice to eat and then right back to sleep. But sometimes we have a hard time getting her to sleep at night. Last night was about a 3 hr ordeal.

  • R is 3 weeks, and she has had a pretty good routine since birth (more wakeful time now and some longer sleep stretches). She will take a long morning and afternoon nap and little catnaps in between. She likes to be awake and look around, but after an hour or so, she gets fussy and we have to try lots of different things (moby, swing, play mat and taking turns holding her).

She gets into her deep nighttime sleep around 9-9:30 and I'll feed her and lay her in her bassinet around 10 or 10:30. She just started giving me one 4 hour stretch at night and is ready for her hour of happy awake time by 6 or 7am. Not too shabby.
