April 2014 Moms

so much for rehab.

So my MIL showed up to my DH brothers wife's baby shower super drunk, (keep in mind her baby shower was at 11am) well the mother to be starts talking about her birth plan and how she plans on having the baby at her house with her mid wife there and her doctor on call in case if something goes wrong.. well my MIL goes on this drunken rampage about how that's the worst ideal she's ever head and that she doesn't need to do that.. I was just in complete shock and felt so bad for this women. She was so upset and felt so judged. I guess my MIL won't be having any alone time with her grandson witch really sucks for both of them. I just don't know what to do to try and help my family to get her into a rehab and help herself.

  • I'm so sorry :(

Take care of yourself and your baby first.

I don't have any specific advice for you but I'll be thinking of you and your family.

  • Exactly what pp said. The most evil part of the disease is how it affects the loved ones around the one actually affected. I'll keep your family in my prayers.
  • There really is nothing you can do. You can't help anyone until they are willing to help themselves. It's sad and very hard to deal with being around. I'm sorry for you and your family having to go through that. T&P that she will eventually see how her actions hurt and affect others. (((Hugs)))

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:
I am here to live out loud!
  • Sorry to hear this - it must have been awful for your husband's brother's wife...
I hope when your MIL realizes she doesn't have alone time with her nephew, she'll know it's time to face her problem!

  • As someone who has a parent who has a problem (cocaine) there isn't anything you can do. They have to want to get better. I gave up on my dad a long time ago. He always wants my girls to come for the summer and I say no. He knows my reasons and just shrugs it off. My kids know they have a grandfather but knows he is really sick and can't see him.
