Those who have used the Arm's reach cosleeper

I have one that I bought used. It is similar to this one, but an older model: https://www.armsreach.com/shop/co-sleeper_bassinets/the-original-co-sleeper-bassinet

My question is, as you can see in the picture (the one I have is the same), the fabric liner is solid, not mesh. How is that not a suffocation hazard? If the baby ends up right up against the side, couldn't they suffocate? I am just not understanding how it is any different than having bumpers or any other fabric on or in a crib.

  • I don't know, but if I had to guess I think it's becuase it's for babies who are not at all mobile - by the time they can roll around they're out of the cosleeper, generally.

  • I agree it's not a danger if the baby doesn't roll. With newborns (pre-rolling) the danger with bumpers is not that they will put their face in it and suffocate, but that it reduces air flow which is thought to increase the risk of SIDS. That might not be an issue here because you're supposed to be at arms reach so you would notice if your baby wasn't breathing normally. Also the description says the sides are breathable mesh.

  • We have the mini and I love it. The sides are mesh but it does have an option to unclip for padded sides. If I was home I'd take pictures.
  • I don't know but we have the mini and loved it. The sides are quilted fabric but aren't padded like bumpers, maybe that makes a difference? Don't all bassinets have fabric sides? DD slept in it for 8m and her favorite position was to have her face jammed in the corner!

  • I had the ORIGINAL from back in the late 90's when my 1st LO was born. It was great and he didn't suffocate! My only complaint was I had to have a CS and it was very difficult to scoot down past the thing to get out of bed. I am having a RCS and getting a moveable bassinet this time for that reason.
