I went into labor on my own with my first, and once my water was broken, around 4-5 cm, I quickly went to ten (like 5 minutes) and pushed him out within 15 minutes.
With my second, I was induced to avoid going into labor at home because there was insane road construction preventing me from being sure I could assess my child if I went into labor AND just getting to our hospital, so I was induced 3 days early & it was a fine experience, but I'm curious,
This time, I'm hoping to actually be able to tell when I'm in labor rather than being as unsure as I was the first time, but I'm totally horrified that if my water broke at home, I'd be sent right into the second part of labor, at home, alone,,,well,,,with my 2 kids..
For those of you whose water did break at home, did any of you deliver very quickly after? I feel like my first labor was as big of a trick as my angel son has been compared to my rascal daughter so I'm hoping to start labor on my own this last time, and my only fear would be panicking if my water broke at home. Fearing that I'd have no time to get out the door! Is it even possible to delver that quickly after if it breaks on its own ?(like I said, my first water was broken at the hospital, not naturally, so I have no idea if it's even possible that it break if I weren't already pretty deep into labor which in that case I'd be to the hospital already) ..?
So! Has anyone delivered very quickly after water breaking? Sorry so long & confusingly worded!
Re: Moms of 1+ : Water breaking & quick delivery question
When my water broke, it wasn't a huge gush, like I was expecting either. Just about a quarter size, and I questioned if it was my water, or if I peed. It def. was my water, b/c the contractions started shortly afterwards and kept building in intensity. So, that was my first baby, and I know that subsequent babies generally come a lot faster. I'm worried about that for myself, too, with this one.
With DS it broke at home & 10 hours (& an epideral later vs. no meds with DD) later he was here.
It's all a grab bag.

The Dr. told me to make sure that when I have more children to let them know, so that they can prepare for a fast delivery.
It kinda freaks me out a little, because I live 1.5 hours away from the hospital. I may go to my parent's house for the last few weeks, since they live closer.

Mommy by the Sea
With her first she had preeclampsia and was already there but once induced even 2 weeks early her labor only was about 3 hrs total.
My water broke with no contractions the first time; about 12 hours later contractions were lasting less than a minute and still at least 10 minutes apart, so I got induced. Laboured for about 3 hours or so, and there she was!
It really is different for everyone. Try to stay calm and listen to your body
