Torn Labia ... its like a flap now :(

I had a med free VBAC on Monday (OUCH!).... my left labia minora tore at the top away from the clitoris. There was a couple stitches there to get it to heal back together, but now that the stitches have disolved, it did not reattach where it originally was. It is separated now and sort of like a flap. Like an earlobe... Has this happened to anyone else?

I called my doctor and they say sometimes the labia will not go back together because the skin is so thin and its normal, but am I alone in this? It just looks so different!

  • No experience with that particular area (I had natural tearing and an episiotomy with about 20 stitches). Just wanted to say I feel for you. Hope it healed well and you're without pain now.

That sounds so unfair. I'm sorry. I hope it heals back!
  • You poor thing, I'm still preggers but have not heard of this... So sorry, hope it heals. I was just googling some things and there is def a surgery for it, I would for sure look into it! Just be sure to do your research first before any plastic surgeon heads down there... Crummy thing is it sounds like you have to wait at least 5-6 months before you can do anything about it, so you are fully healed :(

  • Ditto the others - I have no experience but just wanted to say I'm sorry and I hope it either heals correctly or your Dr has some sort of a solution....

  • If I was you I would wait until I was done having babies before I went in to have plastic surgery. I'm sorry that this has happened to you.
    agreed!

  • So sorry you're going through that, I have never heard of such a thing. Hopefully they can take care of you.

  • Yup... Though mine happened when I delivered at the age of 15 and was completely clueless. Nearly 5 babies later (due any day) my hubby has never cared and it is my normal. I don't know that I would ever have surgery to repair. That sounds more painful than child birth :P
  • Yikes. I'm so sorry. :(

  • I definitely look different after my 1st vbac.  I tore down though.  It didnt heal properly because I slid down a flight of stairs at 5 days PP. It's been 3 years and I'm used to it.

I tore up this time a tiny tiny bit, and havent seen it (just 3 days ago).  But, I expect it to be different. :)

  • Yes, this happened after the birth of my DS. I ended up having post surgery to have it removed. It was bad enough that my underwear would cause issue and sensitivity because of it. Sex hurt because it would get caught. They just did it in the office. I thought it was going to be fine so I drove myself and everything bit afterwards I was in a lot of pain and I wish DH would have went with me. They did give me some pain medication after surgery but it was like healing after birth again. I am sorry you are dealing with this. Did you talk to your OB about it?
