How to Choose a Middle Name

Hi ladies,

I asked a question here about boy names about a week ago, but now I have another. We've decided on our babies' names, but now we're not sure about baby girl's middle name. We've come up with Damon Ryan (Ryan after DH's older brother who died from SIDS), and Elise for our girl, but I'm not sure about a middle name for her. DH randomly mentioned Catherine for a middle name, but how do you choose?

Being Jewish we don't use the names of living relatives, but we use the names of deceased relatives. We've already used three middle names of relatives, and Ryan, but I don't like the female names we can use, so I don't know how people normally pick a middle name.

Hopefully I've made sense! TIA for any help!

DH and I aren't big on naming after family in general. We pick names that we just like and that have a nice flow together. Also, I like looking at the meanings of names too. For example, I saw a name I liked but then saw the meaning was "unsure" which turned me away a bit from liking it.

I am a firm believer that mn's should have meaning. What about a place name of somewhere important to you or a flower name of the kind of flowers in your wedding bouquet?

It sounds like your family is very similar to mine in that we used the actual names of the dead relatives. HOWEVER, I do believe tradition is to use the first initial of the person's name and not their actual name. That might widen the search for you!

We used MN after living family member.

Elise Catherine is pretty. Nice option.
