Breastfeeding

Yeast?

I'm new to this board and am exclusively breastfeeding my 7 week old DD. I have had a really hard time from the start with latch as I had flat/inverted nipples and had cracking even while I was in the hospital after delivery. Things have been up and down with the help of an LC and have needed to use a nipple shield for latch but last week I found out my continuing nipple pain and cracking was due to yeast. Does anyone else have input on how long this lasted? I hear it can be tough to get rid of and I have like a million things I'm supposed to do to prevent it from continuing. It's a little overwhelming and honestly would hsve probably quit BF by now if I didn't really want to stick with it :( Also, for anyone weaning off a nipple shield did you experience pain? I'm not sure if my pain is from the yeast or still recovering from no longer being inverted. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Yeast?

  • I've had yeast several times and it's very painful. I was prescribed an antibiotic and also take one pill a week for maintainance.
