2 months vaccinations concern

Hi I am ftm. My lo 2 months appt coming up; I noted that he will be getting like 5 or 6 vaccines at once ( polio, hip, pneumococcal, hep b, rotavirus etc ++) I read things connecting vaccines to other issues like autism. What do you think ? Side effects to watch for ? Any advices ? Thanks much in advance

  • They typically get 3 shot and a liquid they take orally. Several of the vaccines contain more than one strain. You want to watch for typical side effects like fever, vomiting, lethargy, and swelling at the injection site. If you see any issues call your pediatrician. They normally give you a hand out with lots of information and they will also talk to you about any reaction that may occur and what to look for. As far as the link to Autism. Most research has disproved this theory. Here are a few resources: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/concerns/autism/ https://www.autismspeaks.org/science/policy-statements/information-about-vaccines-and-autism
DD had 3 shots (2 in one leg, 1 in the other leg) and the rotavirus liquid orally. She was fine until about 4 hours later, she screamed for about 15 minutes (she never does this) and had a fever of just over 99. I gave her one dose of Tylenol. She was fine after that.

  • Thanks so much !! It is so reassuring. I was worrying too much.

sigh. No. There is no link from vaccines to autism.
  • In most of western Europe (where I live) they start the vaccines at 3 months. With my first we did the first round of vaccines in the US at 2 months and she blew up with eczema... direct link? I think so but cannot prove it. My subsequent kids.. we lived in Europe and waited till 3 months. You can ask to space the vaccines out.. take one of the combo shots and oral rotovirus at 2 months then the other shot at 3 months.. just means more co pays for you.

Go with your gut. Good luck in your decision.

  • We spread out Nora's vaccines. She got the shots at 2 months, the rotavirus oral vaccine at 3 months to watch for side effects.

As far as the exzema thing goes, my daughter got it prior to her vaccines. It just happens. It's genetic.
  • I recommend bringing your infant Tylenol with you. Once they weigh LO you can give the correct dosage and LO shouldn't have too much of an affect. I was told to give Tylenol before I went, but couldn't figure out a dose. Glad I waited because he was actually heavier than we knew. Gave him the correct dosage about 15 minutes before the shots/oral and he was perfect the rest of the day. Slept like a log the next day. Just be prepared that LO is going to probably cry really hard/turn red lol. Poor thing didn't know what to do for about 2 minutes. But I held him super close and walked around a bit... I think he was fine because I didn't react. Get the shots.
