Found out yesterday one of our cows had her first calf. Unfortunately, she (momma cow) is having complications from the birth and cannot stand right now. This is the first time in the last eight years of having cows that this has happened. The vet came over today to assess mom and baby and decided that we needed to bottle feed baby ASAP or baby would die. So this is a picture of baby getting her first meal of powdered colostrum from my father in law. I got to feed her first and then handed over the bottle so I could snap some photos. I think my motherly instinct kicked in because it was absolutely magical when the babe finally figured out how to use the bottle and we were able to get some food in her belly. Isn't she a cutie pie? Had to share with you ladies! Sorry it's sideways!

I'm wanting to say 2-3 months. Not very long. Once they start eating hay they work on weaning the bottle. They are constantly getting new ones in so I lose track! Lol. And as PP said, watch that they don't buck ya. It's instinct for them to pull then buck when they are nursing the mom so they naturally do it with the bottle too. That's the other thing, I haven't fed for a couple of years between being pregnant and then having to watch DS while we visit and back to being pregnant again.
This thread def threw me for a loop as well lol, wasn't expecting bovines.
