Parenting after a Loss

2 kids + back to work = urgent care for me

Apparently it has been a much harder transition on my body than anticipated. I started getting chest pains/pressure Wed night. It got better Thurs but returned Fri. Rather than try to figure out how to manage a toddler and a newborn at the ER at 4am, we went to urgent care this morning.

They thought it was gastritis and gave me Malox with lidocaine to ease the pain. After keeping me for "observation," it wasn't getting better. My heart sounded fine and they didn't feel the need to do an EKG. Instead, they said I could go to the ER if it gets worse or call my primary on Monday to be seen.

DH thinks it could be stress/anxiety related. Anybody else experience something similar?

  • I have had a racing heart, scarily bad, during an anxiety attack. Not quite what you described though.

Hope whatever it ends up being, I hope it goes away soon!

  • That's scary stuff, my friend. Could be anxiety, could be gastro, could be cardiac - please do go see your primary on Monday. No matter what it is, you need to get on top of it. Sending ((hugs)) and wishes for a speedy recovery. I totally hear you on the 2 kids - work stresses. It is like running on a treadmill at a crazy speed...backwards...with a blindfold on...without any of the actual physical benefits of exercise. :P

Years ago I had similar issues.  I was getting really sharp pains in my heart and lots of pressure.  I was 22, no kids, no real source of stress, etc.  After lots of tests, it turned out I had pericarditis.  I had been sick with strep throat a while before which required 2 doses of antibiotics to clear.. the bacteria must have migrated to the lining of my heart causing the pericardium (the sack around your heart) to become inflamed, causing the pains.  It eventually went away on it's own (took over 3 months).  Recently, I've had similar things happening.. but also have been feeling a strange flutter type thing on occasion with some dizziness.  Cardiologist is again doing all sorts of tests.. I wore a heart monitor for a week, did an EKG and an echo doppler, etc.. it's better to be safe then sorry.. my cardiologist straight up said it could be a number of things.. stress.. GI.. or cardiac.. but, it's best to rule out the "dangerous" things and then work from there!  I hope you're feeling better soon!!

ETA:  I also think it's crazy they didn't do an EKG!  Unless maybe urgent care doesn't have the capability to do that?  Your GP should definitely do one.. and then from there decide whether to refer you out to a cardiologist.. Good luck!!

  • Like PP said it could be a number of things. I actually ended up in the ER twice after I went back to work with vertigo, severe vomiting, & migraines. I had CT scans and everything and they never pinpointed an issue but I did have to go off the minipill. It may be stress but it never hurts to get checked out just in case.
