    Pronounced like AJ, but Ajay is the actual first name not a nickname.

    Are you Indian? Does India has special meaning to?

    If you want "AJ," I would find an A and a J name you like and call him "AJ."
    This. I know two men named Ajay, both Indian and both pronounce it uh-Jay. If you are not Indian I would find this an odd choice. If you are Indian I think it's great if you pronounce it properly.

    I'm not Indian and I actually know a few Ajay's who are. Clarification, I meant pronounced like the initials A-J, I know the Indian pronunciation is Ah-Jay.

    Yes, we get that you are saying you want to pronounce it AJ.

    What we are say is: if you are going to use an Indian name (which Ajay is), then pronounce it correctly (/ah-JAY/).

    If you want to use /AY-jay/, like the initials "AJ," then give him a name with the initials "AJ," then call him that. Don't use Ajay and pronounce it incorrectly. It is like saying you want to use Abram, but "pronounce it /uh-BRAYM/."

    Alasdair, Alec, Alexander, Adam, Aaron, Abram, Abraham, Alan, Andrew
    James, Josiah, Jeremy, Jonah, Jackson, Julian, Jonathan, Jude
      OK, thanks! Just clarifying that I know what the Indian pronunciation is and that it is in fact an Indian name. You pointed out that Ajay isn't pronounced AJ and I was agreeing with you.

    I was interested in hearing every ones opinions. Thank you.

    Not a name (at least the way you are pronouncing it.) I prefer a name like Andrew Joseph and call him A.J. for short.

    Sorry not a fan. I would think I were just trying to hard to have a youneek spelling of AJ. There are so many great first middle combos that could give u AJ as a nn, why make it so difficult?

    Thanks everyone, this was very insightful. I was not trying to be unique with this name, although it appears that way.

     I lurk on this board and have learned a lot about baby names. I was curious to hear honest reactions and feedback, so I appreciate it.

    I know someone that named their son Ajay - a blonde hair, blue eyed type kid - and I still think its a total shame. They could have easily gone with AJ but instead accidentally named him an Indian name. I don't think they were smart enough to realize the name origin, they were probabaly just trying to match his sisters name, which is Ayla. IMO, sorry. Not a great choice.
