Shoe question

Forgive me if this is a stupid question! We are taking DD (14 months) to get her first "real" shoes tomorrow now that she's walking. She has been wearing Robeez up until now.

This
is the type I am looking at at Stride Rite. Do these always have to be worn with socks, or can they also be worn without socks when the weather gets warm?

Re: Shoe question

  • I don't think you have to wear socks. I know sever people who never wear socks.

  • I got DS some sandals from Stride Rite last summer when he was first starting to walk. The lady at the store said to put socks on the first few times until his feet get used to them, then he could go without.

  • We have those exact shoes and DD always wears socks with them, but it's still really cold here. When it warms up I would not put socks on.

  • DD has a pair like that. I never used socks with them. However, when it got hot her shoes and feet started to stink. We ended up switching to something more open for summer.
We had similar ones in silver, and my DD's shoes and feet also smelled terrible when I didn't put socks on her.

  • You don't need to since they're soft all the way throughout.  We're still using socks for DD since it hasn't gotten above 60 (and we just had more snow - ugh).  In the summer we'll go sockless though.  We're also lovers of Stride Rite - check out the clearance section, even for 1/2 size up.  We got a pair of 5s 2 months ago for $29 in the clearance section (DD was wearing 4.5s at the time) and now she's ready to wear them.  And make sure you sign up for their rewards program so you get the coupons!
  • We use socks but you could absolutely not wear them.

We have this exact pair. Just a head's up..i forgot if I bought them on zulily or another shoe website (maybe 6pm.com) but I grabbed these maybe a week or two ago for around $22.99. Love stride rite but I never pay their prices in the store..I buy on sale only and lots of places carry them!

  • These could be worn without socks (sort of like you might wear a pair of Merrills), but just keep in mind that they will get filthy inside because of the holes near the toe, which means her feet will also get dirty and stinky over the course of the summer. I experienced this with my DD with a similar pair of shoes. We ended up buying new shoes (sneakers) and using socks for playtime, which kept her feet cleaner and stink-free. We only put her in open ones when we knew she wouldn't be getting into dirt (like if we were just going out to eat or something).
