Any LOs with daily inhalers?

DD is once again coughing and having trouble breathing, so we went to the pedi and got a nebulizer to do some breathing treatments.  It's the second time this winter, and she had RSV once last winter, too.  The doctor said today that if she needs the breathing treatment a third time this winter/spring, she'd be a good candidate for a daily inhaler.

My husband has asthma, so this isn't unexpected.  He's very informed about these things, and if my MIL was still with us, she could probably walk me through what it's like to have a small child with breathing problems.  Right now, though, I don't know much about it.

Are any other little ones on daily inhalers?  What has your experience been?

Re: Any LOs with daily inhalers?

  • We are doing nebulizer twice a day...once we get our health insurance back we will be going the daily inhaler route as well I suspect. Every time he gets a runny nose we have to start up the neb again, once or twice a day. I have asthma too but I didn't have it when I was little. I believe @pretzelchick mentioned once that she used to have to do treatments when she was little, maybe if she comes around these parts she could enlighten us.

  • DD started with a nebulizer at 10 months old. It was an all fall, winter and summer thing until she was 6. She has used a daily inhaler but now gets by with just a rescue when she has a cold. Many kids outgrow it and thankfully she is one of them! It is tough though and quite a struggle. We managed but she was my only child at the time. I am so glad she outgrew the need for the nebulizer before the boys were born! GL!

  • Similar here, we are doing the inhalers because they are refusing the nebulizer. One is good about it the other isn't.
  • Our lo uses a preventative inhaler twice a day, this keeps him under control. I also have asthma so it makes sense that he has is as well.

  • DS is on a neb twice a day and singular at night. He has an inhaler if needed. Every time he gets a cold he ends up wheezing and at the doctor on steroids. Since his new routine which started end of December he hasn't been sick to see if it's working but let's hope it is! It sucks but it is what it is.
