Ear infection?

Not LO but me. I haven't had an ear infection in 10 years and before that I don't remember so I am not sure if my ear ache warrants major concern. I woke up this morning with pain in my left ear that hasn't gone away, it is quite tender to the touch, somewhat sensitive to loud sounds and it hurts a little to swallow. I just don't want to be blowing things out of proportion and rushing down to the ER (we do not not have Dr's offices that are open on the weekend). So what say you Dec'13, am I being a big baby or should I go?

Re: Ear infection?

  • Do you have a fever? If yes, I would go. If not, I'd see how it feels tomorrow.

  • Not sure my thermometer is working properly as I took DD#1 temp and it came out at 96.5 (mine was 98.8).

  • Just spoke to my sister (she is a public health nurse) and she said if I could avoid going to the ER I should. She also told me that we have 3 confirmed cases of pertussis in a nearby community and 1 suspected here in town (crazy part is the suspected case is in an inoculated child). Thank goodness we go for our 4 month shots on Tuesday.

Yes avoid er if you can, make an appt with PCP if you get signs of an infection, or if it doesn't start getting better

Eta signs of infection being fever, redness/swelling, drainage
  • I am getting over an ear infection right now :-(. One of my older daughters and the baby had one too... I would say that if you can handle the discomfort call your dr. On Monday morning. You should be fine even if is an ear infection. If you can't handle the pain then go in, but definitely go in on Monday if you can to get checked out.
