3rd Trimester

Slipping Rib Syndrome

I just discovered that there is an actual name for the rib pain I've been having. If I change positions or cough, or turn, I get a sharp, intense, stabbing, popping pain in one rib or the other.  It's called "slipping rib syndrome", where the bottom rib(s) litterally slips out of place because of loose ligaments.  So yay for having a name, but boo for not having an acceptable treatment option.

 Anyone else have this?

Re: Slipping Rib Syndrome

  • wow I might have to bring this up with my Midwife tomorrow as I constatly feel like my lowest left rib is "popping" out of place and when I mention it to friends and family they would tell me it was just the LO kicking.  Now I am not stupid I am pretty sure I can tell when my LO is kicking and when my rib is popping.  Well at least if I have it I will feel slightly vindacted for all the crazy pregnant lady looks I got from friends and family :)

  • I was diagnosed with slipping rib syndrome when I was 15. It was from a traumatic untreated broken rib that wasn't able to heal back properly. I'm now 11 weeks pregnant and wondering if this could cause any complications during pregnancy or labor.
  • I am so glad you foud out what was happening! This definitely sounds very painful though, that sucks!

    Hang in there, girl!
