Coconut allergy and baby products

DH freaked me out last night by bringing up my severe allergy to all things coconut. It didn't use to be a big deal, but now that sulphates are out of the question, almost all baby shampoo, washes, and wipes use cocomidal-propyl beatine (coconut derived alcohol) as a cleaner/lather agent. Any advice? Our baby's not due until the end of summer, but I'm kind of freaking out because the only thing I've found locally is $27 for a 12oz bottle of baby wash. Yikes! My skin literally blisters if I touch the stuff, and I want to be able to find soemthing before our LO is born.

Does it bother you?

Edit: oh I'm sorry I just saw the blisters part.

Most alcohol made products are so processed the allergen is out of them.

Or like another example is my son is severely allergic to nuts but can eat chickfila which is cooked in refined peanut oil. The oil is so refined that the proteins in the peanuts are no longer in the product which is what causes reactions.

Maybe cetaphil? My son has severe eczema and we use this. Babies though honestly don't need soap. Sounds weird.

Thanks for the input Ladies. I use Kiss My Face brand olive oil bar soap and the knock off version of Wen shampoo. Then I moisturize with sesame oil. They are the only things that I've found lately that don't cost a fortune! I talked to my sister who sells essential oils, and she said she'd just make us something. I have really bad eczema if I only use water in a bath or shower. My skin might actually hate me

When I was a kid they couldn't figure out why I constantly had dandruff so badly that my scalp would bleed and scab over. It turned out when I was about 8, I tried coconut cream pie for the first time. I almost died. After a 3 day stay at the Women's and Children's hospital, and a ton of testing, it came to light that I was severely allergic to coconut. If I can keep all the derived ingredients away from my skin, my eczema is much more manageable, and my scalp stays clear. I really hope I don't pass this to our LO.

If you don't want to use cloth wipes, you can make your own wipes with soft paper towels such as Viva.

@Justabean3 , that feels like most of my life! lol Coconut is a hard allergy, because it's not considered an allergen!

Is it for you or the little one?

If you have a Lush store near you (or you can see online at lushusa.com), I don't know what selection is like in the US but they have very thorough labelling so you can see exactly what's in stuff. They do use coconut in some products but others, like the Bohemian soap (lemon flavor) might suit your needs? Baby won't need anything other than water to wash with for a while anyway so you have time to figure something out.
