Missing plane Malaysia flight 370

Is anyone as fascinated with the coverage on this as I am?? It's pretty insane that it's been missing for 8 days now and new reports on CNN this morning state they are now looking far north to Kazakhstan.

Any profound thoughts on this?
Theories?
What do you all think happened?

I have not been following it, but have caught snippets here and there. I, too, find it incredibly strange....very Bermuda triangle-esque!

I find it very hard to believe they have absolutely no idea where a giant plane went. Aliens didn't just snatch it up. FFS I can find DF anywhere with find my iPhone.

I think there is more to this story that the Malaysian/ Chinese government isn't saying.

Well, my older brother called me last week spouting off about government conspiracy, martial law being declared, and other crazy things (he's pretty crazy himself)... And then this happens. It's all very strange.

I'm kinda obsessed too. I just keep wondering what those poor passengers were thinking as they flew 7 hours off course. Hopefully, they weren't aware of whatever was going on. I can't imagine sitting in terror for that long.

Yup! H and I are obsessed with this whole thing! In my head they're all living on a remote island somewhere. But really I have no clue what could have happened. It is crazy!

Supposedly, the plane went up to 45,000 feet which could have made everyone unconscious. But I saw that the other day and who knows if it's even true?? This story is crazy.

What I don't get is either the passengers had to be unconscious for the whole ordeal or the plane's actions had to be very subtle and not raise suspicion. Barring just no service, no way 200+ people with smartphones don't make some contact attempt if they were aware of a problem.

I have been following the story, most likely to be sure they find the cause. The unknown will feed my already serious fear of flying. I do it anyway, but I am a mess inside.

Definitely agree. The latest they are saying it could be "an act of piracy". This is playing out like some crazy espionage movie. And I hate to fly too -- this sure isn't helping.

It seems convenient to me that they identify the two mystery passengers as iranian and now it comes out that they believe this was a deliberate action. It's like they are trying to tidy it away but they really have no idea what happened. My thought is if a group is responsible for it they would announce it (as a political statement or something like that).

ETA- and that is my conspiracy theory ranting

What does being Persian have anything to do with this?

I read it as her thinking the government is using them as scapegoats because of their nationality to mark it as case solved even though they have no idea about anything.

This. I don't think that these men were involved. I just think that they are trying to place the thought that someone is responsible and those men unfortunately because of their nationality are easy targets. I say easy targets due to 9/11 many people in the general population have unfounded suspicions of people of middle Eastern origins.

Totally a weird coincidence. I am just glad they were identified so their families know. Well glad is a strange word to use but I don't know how else to put other than I would want to know if it were my family.

Ok, CNN was saying this morning that where the plane was flying, there would not be cell signals, and this plane was not equipped with wifi. So if passengers sent texts, those texts went no where.

I was under the assumption they are pointing fingers at the Iranians because they were the ones with the stolen passports, unless I heard wrong or missed something?

No one would of had to bring it back down it could have simply ran out of fuel

I think they aren't sure who to blame. I'm watching now and they have searched the pilot and co-pilots home...so I don't think they necessarily think it's the men with the stolen passports. @Chillpr‌ I believe the media knows more than they are telling us...it's all speculation. They are saying it could be at the bottom of the Indian Ocean or at the top of the Himalayan mts, it's crazy.

I've been fascinated since I first heard last week. DH is not, but I keep him updated anyway.

I don't have any theories...but it would seem strange to hijack the plane, take it off course, and crash it into the ocean...but then maybe something went wrong.

I instantly thought of LOST and then I thought of Sherlock Holmes and the 007 flight...conspiracies... I really feel for those passengers' families. The whole thing makes me just so damn sad.

I thought they said the plane only had 5 hours worth of fuel?

I'm super obsessed, just because I just can't even start to wrap my brain around you lose a huge ass plane. It's crazy. I would like to think they are living on an island somewhere lost style, but I don't think those poor people are that lucky

it's sad. And weird. And kinda makes me 10x more afraid of planes than I already am.

Running out of fuel doesn't explain why two separate tracking devices were deactivated/destroyed though. I saw today they said the devices would have had to be tampered with from inside the plane.

I definitely think there was some sort of foul play but if it was a large terrorist group they would be taking responsibility by now. I am more worried that the plane landed on the ocean (which they said is possible) and was taken for use in a future attack.

Either way I feel so terrible for the people aboard and their families waiting for answers. What gets me the most is that there were children on board. It's got to be terrifying enough knowing your about to crash but knowing your kids are there and there is nothing you can do to protect them, I couldn't even imagine.

I think because in order to do everything that plane did (shutting off transponders ect..) you are probably a 777 pilot. I don't know I'm not convinced either

Seems like they have let go the fact that two people got on the plane with stolen passports they should search their houses too. The pilot could have turned everything off because he had a gun to his head
