s/o Purim: What goes with ladybugs?

I love that @NRyan55 posted about Purim! Purim is a Jewish holiday. It celebrates Queen Esther. In Persia, there was a king named Ahashverosh (I don't remember how to spell it with the English name). After he had his first wife killed because she refused to dance naked at a party he threw, he held a beauty contest and chose Esther to be his queen. She was Jewish but he didn't know. One of his advisors, Haman, hated the Jews and had the king sign a decree to have all Jews killed. Esther told the king that she was Jewish and instead Haman and his sons were hung on the gallows Haman had built for the Jews. To celebrate that everything got turned upside down, we dress in costume, drink, send food gifts to friends, and give charity.

SOO....

DD1 loves ladybugs so we got ladybug costumes for both kids at Halloween. The girls are going to wear their ladybug costumes. Can anyone think of an easy thing that would go with ladybugs that DH and I can wear?

[A couple of years ago, me and DD1 went as frogs and DH dressed as Pharoah. The year before that, DD1 was C3PO and DH was Chewbacca carrying her.]

  • Wear green and be leaves ;) Purim is the best. We always dressed as characters from the story at my synagogue. I think hamantoshen (or however you spell it) are gross, though.
OMG, I love that. We're doing it. (Too bad my green pants don't fit.)
I hated Hamantashen as a kid but love them as an adult. I wanted to make some with DD1 this year but we didn't get a chance because of all the craziness of the week.

The kiddos made Hamantaschen (sp?) yesterday in class! Love the leaf idea
@nryan55 - I'm gonna be jealous of your kid all year. Can't wait to hear what you think about Passover. Do they give the kids food?

  • I love Purim. So much fun!! The temple did pirates and everyone dressed piratical last time I went. I put pirate stickers on my kippah hahahaha. It was amazing. I would do leaves/a tree/etc.

@RedZee‌ @quartermisses‌ what Jewish holidays involve gifts?

I only remember getting something at Hannukah. Although, during seder, there was always the find-the-matzo game that ended with a gift for whomever found it. But that doesn't really count.

And the passover bunny visited us. But, yeah... that's not a real thing.

Most Jewish holidays revolve more around food than gifts.

Plus wine. I got extremely wasted at Passover a couple years ago. I want to make all of the food now. And drink wine.

  • I love learning/hearing about other religions's beliefs. Purim sounds like so much fun! Thank you for posting this. I was going to suggest a leaf and a stick/branch. Both are pretty simple with brain clothes and green clothes.
