Hi ladies!
Thought I would share the birth plan I put together today for my RCS. Anything I should add? Feel free to use it as a base for yours. I plan to bring it to my next appt and go over it with my doctor, which is why some things are questions.
Birth Plan for Baby A
Mother –
Father –
-Questions
-Stitches/Staples – what will be used?
-Will previous scar tissue be cleaned out?
-Ensure all medications are suitable for breastfeeding and no sedatives if possible.
-Have read that a slower pulling-out/delivery of baby can help with early breathing - is this true?
-eye drops necessary?
Surgery
-Allow Daddy to call out if it’s a boy or a girl
-Can baby be weighed and measured in surgery room?
-Prefer skin-to-skin contact as immediately as possible after birth
-Delayed cord cutting? Can Daddy cut it?
-Can the curtain be dropped at the moment of birth so I can see the baby come out?
-Can baby be held to the breast / skin-to-skin immediately after birth?
-Is it possible to clean baby up in the same room? If baby must be separated, Daddy will go with baby and we would like the separation time between mother and baby reduced as much as possible before being reunited in recovery. Can baby be bathed in the recovery room?
Newborn Care:
-No formula – Breastfeeding only. NO supplementation unless approved by me.
-No pacifier
-Baby will not be circumcised
After Surgery –
Request prompt and timely pain medications, stool softeners, and a binder for abdominal support.
If I am unable to make decisions then my husband can make any on my behalf.
Re: C/S birth plan
I was really surprised how much of the birth plan they were able to honor with a c/s. It all depends on which doctors you get. My OR nurse had to clear everything with each of the doctors before they would agree to do skin to skin because none of them had ever done it before. Good luck!
