Re: Pregnant & TTC After A Preemie 3/14/14

  • We're officially TTC again. We decided that with my diagnosis it's silly to wait another cycle when doctors have cleared me. Since this is my first cycle after two on BCPs after my D&C I don't have much hope, I'm actually just expecting a wonky cycle. I'm okay with that too. I have this weird, irrational idea that if I conceive in July I won't have another loss and will carry to term. Our boys were born on 4/4 which is also my husband's birthday. Since they were so early I feel a weird sense of fate with that day and it's given me a bit of peace with their birth. I know it makes no sense logically but I feel if our next baby is due around then it will all be okay. Has anyone else had a weird feeling like that?

  • @mrsdbc - not insane! I did the same thing.

    Soooo my BP was still high and they were getting ready to send me to L&D if it didn't go down. I laid on my left side and it went down a little so they set me free and I go back Wednesday. In the words of Ross Geller, I'M FINE. I am actually really freaked about the whole thing and am now preparing for baby girl to come any time. They tripled my meds and I am supposed to go to L&D if I have any issues. Babies are mean.

    @flerlgirl‌ Ts and Ps that you're able to get your BP under control and keep baby girl cooking much longer! How high was it? When they put me on hospital bed rest it was like 150/90, sometimes 160/100, but since they were able to monitor me and my urine catch came back fine they weren't going to deliver her just based on the high BP. I hope if it gets to the point of L&D they'll just keep you for close monitoring. Thinking of you!

  • @ktz17 - thank you for the Ts and Ps! It was 141/102 at first. It went down to 138/94 when they let me leave. I hope if I do have to go in it's just to confirm that everything is still okay! He didn't mention bedrest at all but DH has decided the doctor "meant" to put me on bedrest so I have spent the day on the couch neglecting my family :) I keep having pain in or near my kidneys but there was no protein in my urine so hopefully it's just my mind trying to mess with me. Jerk.

  • @Missa_g Not weird at all and your thought process is not illogical. I had all types of thoughts in my head about what it would take for me to have FT baby. I didn't even want to TTC the month that we conceived DD because I was convinced that I would have a preemie like DS since she would have had an EDD the same as DS's actual birthday. Then I thought, I am not that lucky and can't possibly get pg that fast after my D&C (it was our first cycle after 2 rounds of BCP's as well). Anyway, I did end up pg and had an EDD a week after DS birthday and she was born 4 days after his! They are having birthday parties together for a while. :-)

    @mrsdbc Not crazy at all-nothing wrong with being prepared!

    @flergirl I hope that your BP stabilizes and baby girl stays put! Sending you T&Ps!

  • @flerlgirl‌so sorry you're dealing with this! I'm sure the stress of it all doesn't help. Sending lots of T&P for lower pressures and baby girl to stay put!

    @Missa_g there would be a sweet symmetry to that! Hoping that no matter when it happens the timing is right for a termie!

    @mrsdbc I also felt that way... we didn't have everything done, but had a "preemie" bay packed and nursery stuff organized. Now that I'm getting closer to term, I'm having fun packing some "normal" things- took the isolette cover out and am getting ready to wash our coming home outfit. So much fun! Wishing you the same luck!

    As far as me- all is good in the hood. 34 weeks on Monday, 3 more 17P injections to go! It's kinda surreal, honestly never believed we would get this far.

  • Last (and final!) cervical length check was a success! Still holding strong at 3.2cm at about 31 weeks. Did a growth scan and baby is measuring in the 43rd percentile, which is just fine by me! Estimated weight is 3lb.6oz.

    I pray that things continue to go well and LO stays put. There are May moms already dealing with PPROM and it's kind of freaking me out! I'm a week and 2 days away from when I had DS. I'm hoping once I get past that, I can really relax.

    @haziedays - Love the great update! 34 weeks is awesome. I'm jealous you only have 3 shots left! Stay cozy in there, baby!

    @flergirl - Good news about the urine catch, but I'm sorry to hear about the BP. I'm glad you are taking it easy and relaxing! I'll be hoping that you get a good reading next week.

  • @flerlgirl I'm glad the 24 hour urine came back clean. I hope your BP stays under control and that you can keep baking that baby! Take it easy and hang in there!

    @missa_g Not weird at all. This baby is due on 4/23, which is our anniversary. I took it as a sign!

    @MinaE01 Nice results! FX as you approach your milestone day. I did relax quite a bit when I passed mine.

    As for me, nothing big going on. I'll be 35 weeks on Wednesday. My new OB shares the opinion of my old OB and MFM: that I probably don't have anything to worry about with this pregnancy. Of course I will still feel somewhat skeptical of that until I make it to term, but I am a little more peaceful with every passing week.

  • Soooo I did wind up going in Friday night. BP was high and there is a small amount of protein in my urine. But baby girl looks good and I get to go home tomorrow! They are putting me on bedrest but no reason to think she will arrive any time soon.

    Big congrats to Bluebird and mina and hazie dazie for making it so far!!

  • Hi everyone! I just got a positive pregnancy test this morning, and I'm already very anxious about everything. I had my yearly physical a week ago and my thyroid level was 0. It's never been below 0.35, but totally nonexistent this time, so I'm nervous that I have another complication added to my already high-risk pregnancy. Please pray for me, as I will do for everyone on this board. It's so nice seeing all the full-term babies born after their preemie brother/sister.
  • A little update from me... My baby turned two last week. We had her birthday party this weekend. I can't believe how fast two years flew. We had the girls pictures taken about a month ago and I update my siggy picture as well. Hope all is doing well.

    @flerlgirl‌  T&Ps

    @takmjs  congrats!!!!

    I've been MIA out of nerves and nothing to add and an insane work schedule but I have something to add.  We went to the MFM yesterday.  If you remember I mentioned wanting to a bit back. The doctor said that his diagnosis was severe gestational hypertension. he did not diagnose me with pre-e because there was no protein. Anyway he said that he thinks we have a good chance of going to term if we conceive again! he would put me on a baby aspirin regimen (I've started that already) and I would have an extra glucose test early on, a 24 hour protein catch early on and some additional testing early on to get my baseline numbers for future testing.  I would likely have additional ultrasounds as well to make sure the baby stays on the growth curve.  He will likely have me monitor my BP at home daily too.  Other than that he said everything will be "normal" as far as my medical treatment goes.  He said that the chance of it happening again is reduced in a second pregnancy but that I am still at a higher risk than the normal population.  As far as he was concerned, I was extremely low high risk... which is good.

    he added that if I have severe hypertension before 34 weeks they will try to get me to that time (like last time) but they will have to balance it with the risks to me (again like last time which is why I went at 31 weeks) if I get it after 34 I will deliver immediately (hopefully they give steroids first!) if it is mild hypertension they will only let me go to 37 weeks and deliver then.

    they told me I can keep trying to lose weight and that will help a bit. I am only mildly overweight so it wasn't a huge concern.

    so the plan for now is to get my mirena out in May and start TTC in June... I'm super nervous but excited now as well.  I just want a baby to take home with me from the hospital. i want to feel normal! but I also know that if it doesn't work out that way we will be ok.... so I am finding peace in knowing we all made it through the first time.
