HELP. DS sleeping pattern is so off

I just found out that at daycare DS only takes 1 nap.. And she said he is only sleeping 1-1.5 hours.  He will not go down for any other naps for her.  So you would figure by the time he gets home, eats dinner, and takes a bath it would be bedtime?  No. His bedtime is 8:30, and sometimes he goes down not an issue.  But, 30 minutes to an hour later he is up and wide awake ready to play.  So i have to rock him back to sleep.  As an infant he was sleeping throughout the night, but now not so much.  Any tricks or advice on ways to get him back to sleeping through the night? because mama is tired :(

  • I know it sounds cliche but maybe he's over tired ? Can you try putting him to bed before 830 with a really soft and soothing routine ? Ours works for us but prob not most. We do bath and lotion... We do 10 min of bubble guppies (throw ur swords but it works !!) on the couch with the lights dim. Upstairs to his dark room with noise machine , a little rocking and then he's in bed drowsy but awake. I would think with only an hour nap he's just very tired

  • over tired to the point where he wakes up? I am going to try that routine, at this point im willing to try ANYTHING!  haha. One other problem is im still guilty of rocking him to sleep... I wish i would have broke that habit along time ago.  At what age did your son start going to sleep on his own?!

  • I agree with PP that he may need an earlier bedtime at this point! It's worth a shot!

  • I agree with PPs. Try moving his bedtime up by 15 minutes every couple days until he's in bed earlier. Good luck!

  • @Adoreb‌ ... Probably around 8 mos and id be lying if I said I did anything special to make it happen. That's where sleep training may need to come in ( although they are only little for so long I'd just continue to rock him !!)

But yes being over tired can have their mind restless and make them unable to fall into a deep sleep .
  • Is he putting himself to sleep? If not, that is probably the issue.
