infant dyschezia anyone?

Anyone's lo get diagnosed with this?

I feel so bad for E. He just screams and cries and even breaks out in sweats and his little legs shake. Pushing his legs up and bicycling aren't working.

I've been trying to rub his belly like on the youtube video for baby massage if for nothing else a distraction for him but would love to know if anyone else has any tips to help.

Just sucks.

  • Dyschezia
Uncomfortable and fussy babies with noticeably bigger bellies might be constipated -- or they could have dyschezia. This occurs when a baby is having trouble learning to poop. To be able to have a bowel movement, a baby has to be able to coordinate pushing with his belly muscles while relaxing the muscles of the external anal sphincter, Dr. Lerner explains. A baby with dyschezia can't coordinate this right away; he pushes against resistance and that makes him upset; after the episode he will pass a soft, normal baby stool. Dyschezia is common in infants and usually corrects itself within the first two months of life.

To help your baby poop, place her on all fours in a frog-like position. Hold her thighs with your hands and push them towards her chest. This should relax her sphincter to help let the poop out.

I found that on parents.com. Poor little guy! I almost wonder of that's why DD would get soooo pissed before popping up until this last week or so :/

  • Thanks ladies. He screams like he's in intense pain and it just breaks my heart. Once it's done and he goes he looks traumatized for a few min then starts cooing.

Could be! I guess it comes as quick as it goes. i never thought about pooping needing coordination for babies. I'm hoping it passes soon though.

  • When it starts could you do something like a warm cloth on his rear, to help him relax the area?
  • I'm not sure if that would work, but it's worth a shot. He had another episode earlier and I got him in a better froggy position on his belly and it seemed to make last a shorter amount of time! I had him on his back or in a fetal position against me previously.

    Ty for posting that sms!
