Brief history- after a relatively uneventful 6 months of breastfeeding, I developed a large breast abscess that cultured positive for mrsa. The pain and infection seemed to get under control following a month of aspirations and antibiotics (which caused a c.diff infection!), however I eventually chose to wean out of fear of a recurrence. My breast surgeon informed me that while some moms bf subsequent babies without issue, others are plagued by frequent bouts of mastitis and abscesses due to the resulting scar tissue.
Is there anyone out there who can comment on a similar experience? I'd love to now what I'm getting myself into bf'ing in the future.
Re: Breastfeeding after abscess
You just have to be very aware of what's going on in your bra and keep an LC and ob number handy if you need something or have questions
