WWYD Birthday Question

So I've been bugging and bugging DH to inquire about booking our local park for DS's birthday. We want to rent the shelter with the carousel and wanted to have it May 10th. The carousel can be rented from either 9:00 - 11:00 or 11;30 -1:30. We really wanted the afternoon time slot. Well I finally called and they are booked that day. They are available on the 11th but that's Mother's Day so I really want to avoid that because I don't want a low turn-out. The 17th and 18th are booked also. The 24th and 25th they only have the morning slot available. The first afternoon slot available other than Mother's Day is June 1st. DS's birthday is May 8th so that seems too late.

So we are trying to decide if we should book a morning slot for the 24th or 25th, or plan another location. I can rent other shelters at the park but I really wanted the one with the carousel so it would be something for people to do. Do you think 9:00 seems too early for a birthday party? My friend said she went to one at 9:00 at this same park and the host served donuts, fruit and coffee. Help! I can't decide.

Re: WWYD Birthday Question

  • yeah, 9:00 would be a little hard for me on the weekend.

  • I would rather go on Mother's Day than 9am.

  • I also find 9 am a bit too early. I don't think the first weekend of June is fine, or the last weekend of April. I don't think ot is a big deal if the date is a little off.
  • Ugh that's what I thought. I will look into the last weekend of April and first weekend of May. I didn't think to ask about those. Or maybe I'll reconsider June 1st.

  • My sis just had a bday for her two girls and it started at 9am. It was too early for us because we had to drive almost 2 hours to get there.

A later time would be ideal but if most of the guests are local, 9am may not be that bad.
  • I've also been thinking that a good thing about having the party early would be that it would end well ahead of nap time.

All the guest are local except for two who live about 45 minutes away. They are on my MIL's side of the family so I think I will call her tonight and see what she thinks.

  • I couldn't usually swing 9:00 for a bday party. DD sometimes isn't even awake yet. I feel birthdays are afternoon events cause eating cake and pizza while drinking pop at 10:00 in the morning would seem strange for me. I would try for a different shelter or go earlier maybe the weekend before. Then go give DH an ear pull for not listening to you!

  • I talked to my MIL last night and she agreed that 9:00 seemed too early. I called the park again today to ask about the first weekend in May but the afternoon time was also booked. So I booked for the afternoon on June 1st. It is later than I wanted to have it, but at least this way his pictures I'm getting taken on May 2nd will be ready by then and I'll be able to display them at the party.

    Thanks for your help!
