Starving - middle of the night

Anyone else wake up starving in the middle of the night? Only 5 days left until I reach 40 weeks, and the last two nights I'm up at 2am looking in the kitchen... which isn't like me.

Baby is moving a lot and making my tummy itch like CRAZY - I'm using a coco butter almost 3 times a day, but it's not providing much relief. Any suggestions - thinking I'll just go to CVS and look for an anti-itch cream, but curious if anyone has a recommendation.

  • Good to know - sounds like I should make a run to the grocery store... potato salad sounds pretty amazing right now!

  • Yeah. I've had a few nights in the kitchen as well. I can't imagine being hungrier after all this.

  • I usually eat something at least once a night at some point when I wake up starving! Been happening since about week 36 i think... Can't imagine it getting worse after baby is here!
  • Yeah the hunger while breastfeeding is something I had forgotten about since nursing dd. Holy cow...I feel like a human garbage disposal!

  • I'm up eating a Lara bar currently. My husband bought me a giant box of them to keep in our room so I wouldn't have to make trips down stairs. Previously, I would also keep trail mix and granola bars by my bed. The hunger is soo Intense at night!!!
  • Hm, I do get hungry at night; not so thrilled to hear how hungry I'll apparently be while nursing!  I guess I'll have to keep food by the bed.  As it is, I'm often hungry when I get up to go to the bathroom, but I ignore it (too lazy at 3 or 4am) and then eat something small when I get up at 6 to get DD off to school, and then I go back to bed again until around 8 and eat a "real" breakfast when I get up for good.

  • Yes, this is why I've started buying the giant value size bags of cereal.
  • Chocolate milk does the trick for me at night because I normally wake up thirsty too! But I strangely don't remember starving and always being hungry when DS was a baby and nursing. Maybe I blocked that part out.

  • Curious... Does breastfeeding increase your overall appetite over the course of the day or is it that the act of breastfeeding makes you hungry at that very moment? I've never heard about this before....

Also once I got insanely itchy so I took a long shower and finished off with a luke warm/kinda chilly rinse on the belly. When I was still damp I slathered on lotion. It worked for me :)
