Chiropractor for LO?

DS has fluid in his ears. His 2nd set of tubes are out and ENT is going to give it 8 weeks to see if it will resolve on it's own, otherwise we're going to have to have T tubes. I brought him to a chiropractor today because I've heard that they can help in many different areas. I was raised believing chiropractors don't really do anything but suck your money, telling you to come back every week for no reason. When I was in college, I hurt my back and went to the chiropractor a few times and he fixed whatever was wrong, so I do believe they fix backs. But ears, reflux, and all these other things? Can anyone give me some super stories to make me feel better about bringing him?

  • MH is a "real" dr and is anti chiro.  Otherwise I would have been there everyday trying to get my labor going with both pregnancies.  I feel like it cant hurt at this point to avoid surgery.  GL!

Really?? That's awesome! I feel dumb for not knowing that your DH is a doctor. Does he have a specialty or is he general practice?
  • I dont really bring it up much.  He is a radiologist.  I used to be a nurse so we met at work:)

    Awww how cool!
  • A family I worked with took their son to a chiro for reflux. It really seemed to help him! Good luck!
  • That sucks about your DS's ears I hope they're ok in 8 weeks and you don't have to do anything! I took DS to a chiropractor when he was a few months old to see if it would help with his reflux. We only went a couple times but I didn't notice that it helped. I however have heard that they have helped a ton of kids with ear infections so it's worth a shot!

  • I've gone to the chiro for a few years. I stopped going cuz I felt like it wasn't working. I basically "fell apart" and severely needed to start going back. It was my life savor during my last pregnancy. I take DS when I can and he loves it. It definitely helps him "drain" when he's sick so I definitely think you should take him! If it works great, if not then at least you know!

  • I'm a "healthy skeptic" when it comes to Chiro's ... I think a lot depends on the individual practitioner and that belief was also confirmed by the Chiro my husband goes to.. All of them aren't created equally. I asked a Chiro friend for a rec' and I'll PM you the name/contact....

  • I have been going to my chiro since DS1 was born, as has DS1 and 2, since there where around 5 weeks, for me I definitely feel it helps, I find it the same as a good long massage, but I don't have time for that so the chiro works well. For the boys I find they are generally happier and sleep much better after the chiro, I go about once a month (although she recommends every two weeks but I don't get enough coverage for that), and I definitely notice them eating better and improved moods. I have never gone for ear infections, but DS1 had a mild reflux issue that was much improved when he was younger.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • Also, I fond it invaluable when pregnant, I had a much easier pregnancy when it came to back and joint pain and was much less bloated with DS2, then I was with DS1 when I didn't get any chiro, it may have been other factors, but it definitely felt like it helped.

  • I've had scoliosis since I was really young and have seen quite a few chiros. Finding a good one is invaluable ;). I found my chiro now while I was pregnant and had sciatic issues. She specializes in female/child and DD and I love her. She let's us come as we feel it's needed but does give recommendations. My daughter had quite a fall at our recc center and would cry after that when we changed her diaper that it hurt. I took her to the chiro and her hips were way off, after 2 "adjustments" she doesn't cry anymore and last time she got off the table and said feels better :). Our chiro uses the activator and lite touch on DD, I would never let anyone do anything more than that.
