I'm getting around to packing my hospital bag. I brought WAY too much stuff last time, so I'm trying to have a more efficient list. What did you love having at the hospital, and what should I leave at home?
I brought a small bathrobe that I could throw on over the hospital gown. I brought basic shower supplies and flip flops and a couple outfits, wipes, and diapers for DD.
I didn't use anything when I was in the labour room, only in the postpartum unit.
What's your labor plan? If you're planning med free, or at least wanting to wait it out as long as you can before epi, I'd add a few things for comfort/pain relief. Massage oil for your H to rub you, a tennis ball for counter pressure and massage, a corn or rice sack for warmth and pressure for back pain.
I was given pretty much everything I needed at the hospital. I used my robe, toiletries (shampoo, toothbrush, etc.) and phone charger. My H and I also brought a couple of DVDs from home that we watched in the evening (our room had a DVD player). I now have an iPad so I would bring that. Plus a going home outfit for me and baby.
I think you have the "what to pack" list covered with other people's advice. However, the lady from our prenatal class told us to have our partner or husband pack our suitcase. You can put everything together on the bed, but let him place it in the suitcase so if you're in labor and want X item, you don't have to tell him where it is; he'll know since he put it there.

I packed while in labor, so I love the husband packing idea! Also, no one mentioned a can of Lysol! Believe it or not, hospitals are one of the germiest places! I know...I used to work in one. The phone, remote thingy and bed rails are nasty. So are the seats for visitors. I have seen plenty of naked butts on those chairs and they are never cleaned! Yuck! Sorry to gross you out.
