Random diversion from the French: Bandeau Grossesse

So I ordered some maternity clothes from France (long story . . . no, they weren't expensive) and as a special bonus they included in my package a free "bandeau grossesse."  I was scratching my head about what it was so did a Google image search.  Uh . . . what??  I thought the French had good taste?

They're not to hold your belly in.  Apparently they're just to spotlight your huge pregnant gut . . . and put silly slogans on, if you wish.

Examples:

Has anyone seen these on this side of the pond?

(Sorry no PIP -- I am still an idiot about doing that.)

  • Might as well get my bedazzler gun out. Is this really a thing?

  • Fortunately the one mine sent me was plain black.  Clearly I will have to embellish it myself.  ;-)

If you do the Google Image search . . . you will see it is indeed a thing.  Bewildering.

A maternity trenchcoat, mainly. I wanted something simple and classic and the best one I found was on a French website -- enviedefraises.com. Shipping wasn't expensive and returns were free. I love the coat.
  • wow how bizarre!!
  • Yeah I see those but they don't have writing on them. Most of the women I see wear them to help them keep wearing their normal shirts... like a short cover-up

  • I don't that it is any worse than most maternity T-shirts with silly sayings :)

Seems like a fun little thing if you are into taking pictures of your bump with a date on it or something.
  • I've been living in France for 6 years now, and didn't know about these until I got pregnant and tried to find a Bella band type thing and this is what I kept finding . . . So weird, but I haven't really seen it so much on prople, though obviously you pay more attention once you're actually pregnant, haha. Maybe when the weather gets warmer. I finally had my sister send me some stuff from Target, since outside of big cities, there are like, no maternity stores here. Though Envie des fraises ("a craving for strawberries", much more appetizing than pickles and ice cream, non?) is a good website, and I've already ordered waaay too much from them!
