PP stitches

So I just shaved for the first time really well "down there" since I had my son 3 weeks ago... When I saw what looked like a really thick hair hanging out of me then realized it must be a stitch!!! I tugged on it a tiny bit and it was def connected to me. The only other stitches I've had before were from when I had my wisdom teeth removed and I remember those were supposed to dissolve but I still pulled some of them out...

Anyone else have experience with noticing their stitches after they were supposed to be dissolved? I'm planning to call my OB in the am but thought I would post on here in the meantime.

Re: PP stitches

  • With my first son I still had one set of stitches at my 6 week checkup. They don't always dissolve that quickly.

  • I still had stitches that hadn't dissolved from my episiotomy at 6 weeks after DD was born.

And after an abdominal surgery, I had stitches inside (under the skin) that took almost a year to fully dissolve. My doc kept checking those ones. They were just pointy and sore, but didn't protrude, so he didn't want to dig for them to remove them.
  • You're brave @laceybachman! I so want to shave, but I'm scared to even look.

  • No PP stitches experience, but I've had patients with dissolvable stitches that took almost two months to dissolve. They can be removed if needed-I'd recommend letting the OB/MW handle that-or just let them dissolve on their own.
  • Thank you everyone for the responses! Glad it's somewhat normal!

@ndpoole‌ I have been SO scared to even look down there so idk what got into me in the shower but I just went for it!
  • I lost one of my stitches the other day even though they are supposed to dissolve.

  • Kinda off topic... But... Being able to bend over to even attempt shaving is going to be such a weird thing... I forgot what it's like to not have an enormous belly haha
