Question for STM+

For those that have had babies before, how much bigger did you get the last few months? I know baby will double in size before birth, should I expect my belly to double in size also? I ask because I have some maternity clothes and have been getting away wearing some regular clothes also but I don't know how much longer I can get away with it. I am trying to decide if I should go out and buy more at this point. I'm 30 weeks.

Re: Question for STM+

  • Both last pregnancy and this one, I've felt the need to up my stash of maternity tops around this point. My larger sized regular clothes have been creeping up my belly. I hate to spend the money at this point, but I'm tired of being frustrated :-)

  • I agree with the others. Buy more. Get ones that can double as nursing tops if you want more mileage from them.

  • For me, my belly got way bigger and even some of my maternity shirts weren't enough anymore. I ended up buying a few things at the end (like 4 weeks to go) b/c I was desperate. I've tried to be smarter this time around and I've purchased shirts that are more tunic-style so they will still fit at the end.

  • I had to buy a bigger size in maternity clothes for the last 2 months last time, and I'm thankful I have them again for this time, too! Definitely worth it. Whoever tells you your regular size in a maternity size will fit your entire pregnancy tells lies!

  • I'm not a STM, but am outgrowing many of my shirts. My plan is to get lots of the comfy and cheap-o Old Navy tanks that I can layer with cardigans to get me through when other shirts don't fit. I figure it won't be a waste because I can wear those post-partum, too!

  • If what you have is getting small on you now, you are going to want something else before the end. You still have a lot more growing to do. I wouldn't say that your belly will double in size, but its going to be much much bigger than it is now. I'd invest in at least a few tops.

  • I got quite a bit bigger in the last two months. Definitely needed new shirts to fit over my belly!

  • Thanks all. I think I'll just bite the bullet and get some more. How much bigger should I expect to get? I'm thinking at least 10cm right? Because you should measure 40cm at term?
  • Here's me at 30-35-39 weeks with DD.  I delivered at 39w3d

  • I would say yes, expect to get 10 cm bigger.  I don't actually know how big 10 cm are (bumping from work and I don't know if we have a ruler anywhere) but I got impressively huge the last couple weeks/month or so of my first pregnancy.
  • My belly got significantly bigger last time in the last five weeks. I don't know that it doubled, but it sure felt like it.

  • I'd recommend getting nursinf tops, A LOT can double as a maternity top. If your belly is still poking out I'd get a few maternity camis to layer under. Unless you don't plan on bf, if that's the case disregard and get more maternity tops.

  • I just got a bunch of new clothes at H&M because all my maternity pants from my first pregnancy ripped over the last couple weeks. I don't think it's a waste. Last time I was wearing maternity clothes for months after I had DD until I could fit back in my pre pregnancy clothes.

  • I would buy an excessive amount more. Pictures with 1000 words.

  • I never really knew it was possible for the belly to outgrow a maternity shirt until I hit about 35 weeks.

And while it may be a good idea to buy some nursing tops, I can assure you - they may not cover a late term belly.  Mine don't even cover my belly now (it's similar to my 35 week belly from last time).

  • I think around 30 ish weeks I found myself buying new pants again but I get huge when pregnant. Your belly won't double in size (the kid starts running out of room as it grows) but will still get bigger. I'm 30 weeks now and I can still seem to fit into most of my clothes. Shirts are getting short but like I said, I get huge.

  • Most of my maternity tops started getting too short around 36w with no 2 (didn't get that far with no 1).

  • I personally found the shirts with the rouching on the sides for me the best later on. Especially from MM, their fabric seemed the stretchiest. My boobs also get huge, like 38dd while pregnant so I need shirts with lots of coverage.

  • I wore a lot of dresses at the end (dd born in March) and that worked really well and I could wear them pp after she came for summer too. That's another option. It won't be cold on June, so get a few summery dresses for April and may?
