Lunch ideas

So I believe this has been focused before but I can't find it in mobile. LO has recently decided he is over any baby food. I currently give him grilled cheese, graduates ravioli, fruit, or cheese for lunches. I need some new ideas! So the question is what are your little ones eating for lunches now?

Re: Lunch ideas

  • yogurt/cereal, bread w/hummus or peanut butter, pasta, and usually still some purees or smushed up bits of what I am eating.

  • Fruit and cheerios, leftovers from dinner, or half a sandwich. If we are out she has some of whatever I am having.

We have been eating everything! Edamame, sloppy joes, ravioli, cooked veggies cut up, LO loves cottage cheese pancakes, cut up fruit and yogurt, groundturkey with pasta, chicken salad, egg salad, fruit with cottage cheese...
  • I cook for my son just the same as I do for the rest of us. Steel cut oatmeal is an amazing snack for my son (especially road trip food). We pack it in to-go soup containers and because there is no dairy it travels well. Depending on your personal choice on introducing eggs, we often do a scrambled egg seasoned with pepper and a side of tomatoes or red potatoes and a fruit or cheese. If you scramble the egg in a microwave safe container (I use pyrex measuring cup) it becomes a nice, round fluffy egg like you'd find on an egg sandwich that is easy to break into grab-able pieces. Quesadillas with or without chicken inside, along with black beans and corn is a favorite. Cubes of cheese, chunks of fresh bell pepper and chicken, pork or a fresh non-preservative deli meat. Ground beef and noodles and vegetables.
    Snacks: All fruit smoothies.
    Quinoa or rice or barely.
Lightly-seasoned baked red potatoes I prep once a week and keep ready in the fridge
Baked mac and cheese (I won't use the store bought chemical kind).
    Baked apples and cinnamon.
Banana-applesauce-oatmeal cookies or muffins I bake early in the week for ready to go snacks. Baked sweet potato sticks with a little cinnamon
Cuties (I peel for him-don't like the syrup in the canned mandarin oranges)
Peanut butter (again depends on your choice of introduction on this) and banana stacks

Cinnamon, vanilla powder, garlic, pepper, cumin, fresh herbs-all are great to add a bit to change up his meals. We can jams/preserves once a year, and a simple sauce of apricot preserves mixed with balsamic vinegar and reduced that we serve with Duck my son LOVED, so I will sometimes put that on his chicken or pork.

  • I pack stage 3 food. Today I gave her a banana that I cut into small pieces for the first time.

  • We still do purees, plus yogurt, Cheerios, grilled cheese, and peas & carrots.

  • I send leftovers of whatever we had for dinner the night before.  Today she had kielbasa and roasted zucchini, potatoes, onions, carrots and yellow squash.  I also sent a pear, a fruit & veggie pouch and a cheese stick and she always has puffs.

We are doing a pork roast tonight and our DCP is Muslim, so I won't send that.  She's getting a pouch, Greek yogurt, green beans, au gratin potatoes and some fruit.

  • Thank you ladies! I guess I have to get over my fear of feeding him what we are eating!
  • A loves grilled cheese, mac and cheese ( I use the bambini pasta and add some shredded cheddar she loves it) , ground turkey , eggs ( I usually hard boil the eggs and I'll eat the whites and she'll eat the yolks, yogurt , homemade waffles, baby carrots , cut up cherry tomatoes ( I finally tried them with her and she loved them).

I'm looking for more ideas as well.

For those of you that are giving deli meats , are you getting the low sodium or just giving whatever it is that you have at home? I had a turkey wrap from trader joe's and she was eying my every bite so I gave her some turkey but the sodium content worries me.

  • To be honest, I didn't look at the sodium; I probably should. I was more concerned with it being organic / all natural.

  • E only recently went back onto solids after being poorly but this is what I usually do.

Salmon pate (steamed salmon blended with cream cheese and lemon zest) spread on bread.

I made a fruit loaf (no sugar) with pumpkin seeds, cranberries, raisins and she liked this with a bit of butter on it.

Fresh fruit whizzed up in Greek yogurt.

    Raisins and Cheerios

    Courgette patties.
