I feel like this can't be "typical" of an almost 18 month old. Hannah still wakes 2x per night 3-4 days a week.
I almost always go in at first. I feel like their must be a "reason". Like she didn't eat well at dinner, she ate something that may be making her gassy, she may have pooped, she may be congested (she's basically been sick with something or other for months). But even after I check to make sure everything is okay, she will cry for 30-60 minutes before finally passing out from exhaustion.
And honestly, it's getting worse. She used to be a great sleeper, and now it's really hit or miss. I am dreading being up every 2 hours with a newborn, and again with my shitty-sleeping toddler.
Do any of your LOs still wake this consistently? Am I making it worse by checking on her in the first place? Should I just not go in at all?
Re: Does LO still wake in the MOTN?
I kind of just use my judgement and do whatever I think will help her get to sleep the fastest. If the norm for going in and checking on her means 30min-an hour of continued crying to get back to sleep, then I wait if I think she'll get to sleep on her own in less than 30 min, if that makes sense.
What method did you use to sleep train Hannah in the first place? I'd probably try to be consistent and treat night wakeups the same way you would treat having trouble getting to sleep in the first place. For us, it was CIO with longer and longer check-in intervals, so I'd use that again.

DS doesn't wake up in the MOTN. He hasn't in about a year. We sleep trained at 6 months and he's been STTN since. He'll wake up but put himself back to sleep. I haven't been in his room in the MOTN since. In the morning he moves around a lot and he talks in his sleep a ton but it's never something he won't bounce back from and go back to sleep from.
ETA: When he does cry out I'll wait about 10 minutes to let him sort it out by himself. He always has.

We try to let her CIO a bit but we live in an apartment with paper thin walls. I always worry she'll wake the neighbor's kids. CIO at 8pm no big deal CIO at 3am I just feel bad.
