Help me find a baby carrier for DH

I am trying to find a baby carrier that my husband can use this spring or summer for outside hikes or town events where a double stroller might be a PITA.  I have a mei tai carrier that I love but he has trouble getting it on.  Basically anything with straps that requires tying behind his back is a no-go.  He is hopelessly uncoordinated  in that respect and has no upper body flexibility to reach around and get the straps from behind his back while holding a baby.  We also have a hand-me-down Infantino carrier that is more structured and has a lot of complicated straps and clips that neither one of us could figure out how to put on or configure. What he says he wants is a carrier that he can put on and then just drop the baby into it. Is there anything out there like that?  It HAS to be easy to put on otherwise he will get frustrated and give up. I was thinking about trying an Ergo - is that easy to get on for a guy?  Any other suggestions?

My DH uses can Infantino carrier. It has clips on the sides and straps like a back pack. I'll get the link when I'm not mobile

  • My DH loves our Ergo. It wasn't super complicated at all, and we use it for everything - trips, walks, vacuuming, etc. He also likes that he can wear a backpack with it for his "man diaper bag".

  • My DH loves the Ergo sport but he cannot clip the shoulder strap by himself.

  • DH also likes the ergo. Like PP have stated the back clip can be adjusted so he can reach it easier or you can just snap it for him. And they are super easy so if for any reason you are having a hard time you can do a quick you tube search and figure it out!

  • One of the SAHD's in my new parents group has the boba and seems really comfortable in it.

  • DH uses the Chicco Smart Support Backpack for day hikes. You can put baby in it when not wearing it and put it on like a backpack.

DH loves the ergo. I personally am not flexible or very coordinated, and I have no issue with getting the ergo on. My cousin has twins and she actually wears both of them at the same time. One on the front and one on the back and she claims to have no issue.

    woah - mind blown!

This is pretty outside of the box, but have you considered getting a hiking baby backpack? They are amazing! They stand up on the ground, you load up the kid, and then swing it onto yuour back like a backpack! Ours has a camelback, a billion pockets, and detachable sun shade.  Our 2.5yo still loves riding in it, and we started with her when she was 7 months-ish.
The one we got is super crazy expensive, but I used my REI dividends and coupons so it was "only" $160.  For the amount that we hike, and the use we plan to get out of it I think the purchase was well worth the cost!
This is the one we have: Deuter brand, but Kelty is good too

Someone else suggested this to us too and it does seem like it would be more his thing.  Maybe we can go try some on in an REI sometime.

Yeah it's pretty amazing. Her twins are now 3 and she still does it. Here's a pic of them from the ergo baby site. I give all you multiple mommas major street cred for managing on a daily basis.

  • My DH loves our Ergo. I still struggle with that back clip but he has no problem with it.
  • Dh and I both love our Becco. The clips are on the sides, so it's easier to do yourself.

  • Ergo works great for my DH. He is 5'11' and 240lbs if that helps at all. He says it's really comfy.

  • My DH loves using the Ergo! I do find it difficult to reach all the clips and get on, but he doesn't seem to think its a problem. The Ktan is just easier for me, but it won't fit DH since its sized.

  • We have a framed kelty carrier for hiking. It is great but kind of bulky. It does stand up on its own though which is awesome. It also has a detachable backpack.

DH loves the ergo and he is 6 foot and some change and about 220.

  • MY DH likes our Beco Soliel, it's very comfy and easy to strap on. One at the top and one at your waist.
  • Boba3G here as well. DH hasn't used it yet, but I'm sure will in the future and it fits a wide range of sizes. Like others have said, the back strap can be tricky, but I can get it fine.
