Re: non Stress test?

  • Do you mean a non stress test? They just strap monitors to your belly and see how the baby is doing.

Bc high BP can be indicative of some serious complications. Your doc is being proactive and that is good.

FWIW, I am starting twice weekly NSTs my 33rd week, as well. Different concerns than your doc has, but still a proactive doc.

  • With my first I started having NSTs 2-3 times a week at 35 weeks.  My NSTs were at the Laboring unit in the hospital.  It was nice to be there and meet the nurses before I actually delivered.

It never lead to bed rest (although most of the nurses assumed I was on it). My BP was consistently 150/100, and my 35w U/S showed extra fluid around the baby which is why I started having them.

It was always shocking DD was a rockstar and would always get her movements in right away, and then we would just watch the contractions on the monitor.  I never felt them so it was weird seeing them.

Hope they go well for you.

  • I'm not going to lie, I've had several now and I hate them.  Mostly because my two little boys decide that when those monitors go on is when they should start having a dance party.  It always takes forever because they keep moving off of the monitors and then the nurses have to come readjust and start again.  However, if your baby cooperates and does movements but doesn't dance all over your womb, it should only take 20-30 minutes of monitoring.  The good thing about doing them is that like @kb2bkk, mine have all been done in L&D so I've gotten to meet quite a few of the nurses and 3 of the other docs in my office while they were on call.  Hope all goes well with your test and LO cooperates and is doing fine.

  • I have been having NSTs for the past 2 weeks and I have one more scheduled next week. The three things they are monitoring are your baby's heart rate, baby's activity level, and your uterine activity. I have been in there for 30 mins and over 1 hour now. Make sure you bring something to drink/eat that will encourage the baby to move.

  • Thanks ladies, first day went well I go back again Monday, I guess I was nervous over nothing, baby is still breech though :(
  • With my last pregnancy I had some high BP issues and they had my doing the non stress tests 2x a week. It was no big deal. In my case they did put me on bedrest, but I think it was mostly just to get me out of a crappy work situation. They just wanted to keep a closer eye on DS to make sure that the high BP wasn't causing him any issues.

I have the have them at least once a week starting at 32 weeks for different concerns and then I see my MFM for an u/s every week as well stating at 32 too. And I'm not on bed rest either. Just being proactive.

  • I had to do them starting at 35 weeks with my DS because of high blood pressure at the office. Also ended up on bed rest after first non-stress test due to constant regular contractions. DS was pretty stubborn and didn't like to move while I was there so was always scared I would get sent to Labor and Delivery. My water broke at 38 weeks 2 days and he was a healthy boy! Dr.s just like to be proactive and cautious.
